“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers” (Proverbs 11:14).
We live in a fallen world. The Bible says, “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Rom. 5:12).
The world is a broken place. There was a time before humanity’s fall when there was perfect fellowship, peace and harmony with God. No one likes to talk about sin. It has become taboo. Not even the church. We prefer to talk about the blessings, the glory and the coming move of the Holy Spirit. These are all wonderful manifestations of God. If we study the history of each Great Awakening, we find something remarkable. Each of them occurred between the 18th and late 20th centuries. This period is significant. We find that sin was rampant on the earth at the time before God stepped in. Matthew 24:12-14 says that in the last days “sin will be rampant everywhere. The love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved….
In Matthew 24, Jesus sitting on the Mount of Olives describes a future time. We will hear of wars and threats of wars. He encouraged the disciples not to panic. He also said nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There would be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. He then said this only the first of birth pains, with more to come. As someone who has given birth twice without an epidural it can be quite painful.
We have been witnessing the ongoing birth pains for some time. I believe the one of the most devastating time was in 2004. A major earthquake and tsunami occurred on December 26 in Indonesia. It killed an estimated 227,898 people. It was the 10th deadliest natural disaster in history according to Wikipedia. I remember it because the Lord had been speaking to me about a coming tsunami. I didn’t know whether He meant a spiritual or natural tsunami. I was awaken in the early hours of the morning thinking I’d felt a shaking or rumbling. When I got up and looked out of my window all was quiet. When I arrived at work that morning everyone was talking about the tsunami. I was devastated!
I’ve had different dreams, visions, impressions and experiences over the years while growing in the Lord. I share this because we should take heed to the Word of the Lord. We shouldn’t be fearful. We must discern the times we live in. It’s no strange thing what’s happening on earth today.
Jesus said the day would come when we would see what Daniel the prophet spoke about. He also said that when the son of man returns it will be like in Noah’s day. People were eating, drinking and having a good time until the flood came and took them away.
My wish is to encourage the church and spirit-filled believers to discern the times we are living in. They need to be open and obedient to what God is doing now. They should also be receptive to what He wants to do with His church. Although I titled this series “What Is Happening to America?” We see shaking taking place in every nation. The church needs to awaken. It must become the church Jesus died for. It should also build according to the pattern of the early church (Acts 2, Ephesians 4).
We leave out that God desires this nation to walk in righteousness if it is to become great. Righteousness exalts a nation! Sin is a disgrace! (Proverbs 14:34)
“…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray. They should seek my face and turn from their wicked ways. Then, I will hear from heaven. I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicle 7:14).
This applies to all nations. God would have it no other way.
Blessings,
Dr. Francine
