Finding Hope: Living by Faith in Everyday Life

Reflections on Trust, Uncertainty, and Finding Strength

Life can sometimes feel like a whirlwind, pulling us in every direction and leaving us with more questions than answers. The news is filled with stories of conflict, uncertainty, and challenges. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of so much unpredictability. But what if there was a way to find peace and purpose even when life feels chaotic? That’s where faith steps in—a way of trusting when we don’t have all the answers.

What Does It Mean to Live by Faith?

The Bible verse Habakkuk 2:4 says, “The righteous shall live by faith.” But what does that mean in simple terms? It’s not about pretending everything is okay or ignoring the problems around us. Instead, living by faith is about choosing to trust God even when we don’t have all the solutions. It’s about believing that there’s a bigger picture at play, even if we can’t see it yet.

Faith isn’t just something we talk about; it’s something we practice daily. It’s about waking up each morning and deciding to trust that God is in control, even when life feels uncertain. It’s like saying, “I may not understand what’s happening right now, but I believe things will work out. I’m not facing this alone.”

Finding Peace in Uncertainty

One of the hardest things in life is dealing with the unknown. We all want answers—why things happen, what’s next, how we can fix what’s wrong. But sometimes, answers don’t come right away, and that can leave us feeling frustrated or lost. Faith gives us a way to cope with these moments. It reminds us that it’s okay not to have all the answers because we can trust God to guide us.

Habakkuk, a prophet in the Bible, struggled with similar feelings. He asked questions like, “Why is there so much evil in the world? Why doesn’t God step in right now?” These are questions we’ve all probably wondered at some point. What’s inspiring about Habakkuk’s story is that he didn’t get all the answers he wanted. Even so, he chose to trust God anyway. His faith grew stronger. It wasn’t because everything was suddenly perfect. It was because he found peace in knowing God was with him.

Faith Isn’t Easy, But It’s Worth It

Letting go of control is one of the biggest challenges of faith. We like to have a plan, to know what’s coming next. But faith asks us to trust God’s timing and not our own. That doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing—it means we trust while continuing to do our best. Faith doesn’t remove life’s storms, but it helps us stay steady through them.

Habakkuk’s journey is a great example of this. At the beginning, he was overwhelmed and questioning everything. But by the end, he found such deep trust in God. He can say, “Even if everything goes wrong. If the crops fail. If there’s no food. If nothing seems to be working. I will still rejoice in God.” That kind of trust takes time and effort, but it’s what faith is all about.

What Can Faith Look Like Today?

In our modern, busy lives, living by faith looks different for everyone. The core idea is the same: trust God in the midst of uncertainty. Maybe you’re dealing with a personal struggle, like a health issue or a tough decision. Or maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by everything happening in the world. Faith doesn’t promise quick fixes, but it does offer strength and hope to keep going.

Living by faith means focusing on what you can control—your actions, your integrity, your kindness—while trusting God with the rest. It’s about taking steps forward, even when the path isn’t fully clear. You take these steps because you believe that God is walking with you.

Faith as a Daily Choice

Faith isn’t something you decide on once and never think about again. It’s a daily choice. Each day, we face new challenges and uncertainties, and each day we have the opportunity to choose faith over fear. Some days are more challenging than others. Every step of trust brings us closer to a life of peace. It leads us to a life of purpose.

In Habakkuk’s story, we’re reminded that faith isn’t about having everything figured out—it’s about trusting the One who does. And in that trust, we find not only hope but also the strength to face whatever comes our way. Life can feel like smooth sailing. It can also feel like a raging storm. In both situations, remember: the just shall live by faith. In that faith, we find our anchor.

As we step forward into each new day, let us carry this truth in our hearts. Faith is not merely a belief. It is a way of life and a steadfast trust in the One who holds all things together. Whether we face calm or chaos, triumph or trial, our faith anchors us to a hope that does not waver. Let this assurance propel us to live boldly. Let it inspire us to love unconditionally and to shine His light in a world longing for peace and purpose.

May we walk in confidence, knowing that our foundation is firm and our calling is clear. Let every action, every word, and every moment reflect the grace and love of Christ. Let us be living testimonies of His power and His presence. We should invite others to experience the boundless joy of a life anchored in Him.

With unwavering faith and abundant grace,

Minister A. Francine Green
