The Christian Vision of How Things Are Meant to Be

A Simple Reflection on God’s Design for the World

In the classic Biblical view, the world is meant to reflect a beautiful harmony, designed and intended by God. This perspective isn’t just about rules or rituals. It’s about how life is supposed to work at its very best. This applies both in the way it was originally created and how it can be restored through grace.

At the heart of this vision is the idea that everything is meant to fit together in peace. But this isn’t just any kind of peace—it’s the kind of peace that goes hand in hand with justice. Imagine a world where fairness isn’t just a nice idea. In this world, everyone is treated rightly. Relationships are healed and whole. Peace in this sense is like the final touch that makes justice whole, like the finishing stroke on a masterpiece.

Another key part of this vision is mutual respect. This means seeing and treating each other as valuable, no matter our differences. It’s about recognizing the worth in every person. This is because, in the Christian understanding, everyone is made in the image of God. When we live with this respect, communities thrive, and individuals are free to grow and flourish.

Then there’s the idea of focusing on the public good. This isn’t just about looking out for ourselves or our own families. It’s about deliberately paying attention to what’s best for everyone. We should work together to build something better for the world as a whole. In this view, caring for the public good is a shared responsibility. Each person contributes to a greater vision of goodness and love.

This understanding can feel both simple and profound. At its core, it’s about how things ought to be. It reflects God’s original intention for creation. There is also the hope of restoration through His grace. It’s a vision of life full of peace, fairness, respect, and care—a world that’s not just functional but deeply beautiful. This might seem like a lofty goal. Yet, it’s a reminder of how we can live today. We should aim to bring a bit more of “the way things are supposed to be” into our everyday lives.
