Finding Shelter in Life’s Storms

“God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble”. (Psa. 46:1)

Life can be overwhelming at times, can’t it? There are moments when it feels like everything is falling apart—like the very ground beneath us is crumbling, and we’re caught in the middle of a storm we can’t escape. But here’s the thing: while it *feels* that way, feelings don’t always reflect the truth. Pause for a moment and consider this.

Even when the chaos around us seems unstoppable, there is a promise we can hold on to—a promise of peace, strength, and refuge. Psalm 46 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

These words aren’t just poetic lines; they’re a reminder that no matter how wild life gets, we are never really alone. God is with us—steady, unshakable, and ready to help. He is like a safe harbor in the middle of a raging storm or a strong shelter when the wind howls around us.

It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of the world. Nations are in chaos, kingdoms rise and fall, and we can feel small and powerless. But here’s the good news: the Lord Almighty doesn’t change. His love and presence remain constant, no matter what’s happening around us.

When we choose to stop tearing each other down and let go of the hate that divides us, we begin to see the bigger truth—that God’s care and strength are available to everyone. The truth always works both ways. It’s not just about us finding refuge in Him; it’s about extending that same kindness, grace, and understanding to others.

So the next time life feels impossible, remember this: feelings may come and go, but the truth of God’s presence doesn’t waver. He’s with us, holding us steady, and giving us the strength to face whatever storms come our way. And when we lean into that truth, we can find peace, even in the middle of life’s chaos. Let’s choose to be a reflection of that peace for each other.

Blessings,

Minister A. Francine Green
