Understanding Isaiah 60:1-2 and Our Role in the Battle
In 2018, I had a sensing in my spirit, a deep stirring that pointed to spiritual truths about the times we are living in. This wasn’t just a feeling; it was a conviction, a clarity that illuminated the challenges and opportunities facing us as believers. There is no ideology more contrary to biblical tradition than the one that seeks to distort or deny the spiritual struggles we have faced since the beginning.
The Bigger Picture: A Spiritual Battle Beyond Borders
Though we are now in what feels like the biggest fight ever for the survival of our nation, the reality is that what we are facing transcends national boundaries. This struggle is bigger than our country, or any single nation, and it is rooted in a prophecy from Isaiah 60:1-2:
“Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you.”
This passage speaks to a time when darkness envelops the world, a metaphor for confusion, strife, and moral decay. Yet it also heralds the promise of light, the glory of the Lord shining through His people. We are living in that moment now, where the darkness seems overwhelming, but the potential for light is greater than ever.
Years of Preparation: Teaching, Preaching, and Writing
For several years, my focus has been on teaching, preaching, and writing about these spiritual truths. It is clear to me that the battle we face is not just cultural or political—it is profoundly spiritual. As Christians, we have been at war from the beginning. Scripture reminds us in I John 5:19:
“The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”
This war is not against flesh and blood; it is against the principalities and forces of darkness that seek to extinguish the light of God in the world. Every effort we make to stand firm in faith, to live according to God’s word, and to share His love is a blow against these forces.
Misguided Battles: Culture and Race
It’s important to recognize that not all battles are well-directed. Pretending to war against culture often morphs into a war against race, and this is a dangerous path. Such conflicts only serve to divide rather than unite. The constitution may be colorblind, but people are not, and we must acknowledge the diversity God created in humanity. Our fight should be centered on spiritual truths and justice, not on perpetuating divisions.
A Call to Action
As believers, we are called to rise, to shine, and to let the glory of God be evident in our lives. This means:
· Ground yourself in the Word of God and seek His wisdom for understanding the times.
· Do not shy away from standing for what is right, even when the world around you is hostile.
· Work to bring people together under the banner of God’s love rather than sowing division.
Conclusion
The prophecy in Isaiah 60:1-2 reminds us that darkness will come, but it is not the end. The glory of God will rise, and His light will shine through those who are faithful. Our mission as Christians is to be vessels of that light, to reflect His glory in a world desperately in need of hope.
Let us not lose sight of the bigger picture. The battles we face are spiritual, and they require spiritual armor—faith, truth, love, and perseverance. The journey is challenging, but the reward is eternal. Arise, shine, and let the glory of the Lord be evident in your life.
