Have you ever noticed how rules in a game keep things fair and fun? Imagine playing a soccer match where there are no referees, no offside rules, and no boundaries. Chaos would take over, right? Well, something similar happens in a society when it loses its connection to God and His guidance.
When people start to misunderstand who God is or build their beliefs about Him on bad or incomplete information, it’s like tearing up the rulebook for life. God’s principles are there to help us live well, treat each other with respect, and keep a sense of morality in place. But when those principles are ignored, removed, or pushed to the side, trouble begins. Evil behavior grows unchecked, and society begins to spin out of control.
Even people who don’t believe in God often live with some awareness of right and wrong, influenced by the moral foundation His teachings provide. But when God’s laws are no longer part of the cultural conversation, it’s like removing the brakes from a speeding car. Without a shared standard for what’s good and just, everything becomes a free-for-all, and the consequences are felt everywhere.
Let’s look at an example from the Bible. In the history of Israel, there were times when the people lost their way and turned their backs on God. Instead of guiding them, God allowed them to feel the weight of their own choices. The Book of 2 Chronicles describes this vividly. It says, “God troubled them” (2 Chronicles 15:6). This doesn’t mean God was being unfair; it means He allowed the people to experience the natural results of rejecting His guidance. No political leader or government program could fix their problems. Things didn’t improve until they turned back to God and realigned with His ways.
This idea is echoed in the New Testament by Paul, who wrote, “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men” (Romans 1:18). Paul wasn’t talking about random punishment but about the way things unravel when people ignore God’s wisdom. It’s like taking the foundation out from under a house—it can’t stand for long.
Now, let’s connect this to today. Many folks look around and see a world that feels more chaotic, more divided, and less caring than ever before. Could it be that we’re witnessing what happens when a culture moves away from God’s principles? Without His restraint, it’s easier for greed, selfishness, and injustice to take over. And no amount of money, legislation, or effort can fully fix things if we leave God out of the equation.
The good news is that change is possible. Just as Israel found peace when they turned back to God, society today can rediscover stability and hope by listening to His wisdom and following His principles. It’s not about rules for the sake of rules—it’s about creating a space where goodness, fairness, and love can thrive.
In short, when a culture drifts away from God, it drifts into chaos. But there’s always a way back, and it starts with seeking Him again.
