Understanding Key Scriptures and Their Messages
When we look at the Bible, it’s clear that the topic of wickedness comes up again and again. But what does “wickedness” really mean in this context, and what do these ancient texts say about it? Let’s break down some of these important Bible passages in easy-to-understand language.
Wickedness in the Time Before the Flood
Genesis 6:5, in the very first book of the Bible, describes how people let bad thoughts take over their lives. Their actions were also filled with wrongdoing. It says that everyone’s heart was pretty much set on doing wrong all the time. This was right before the story of Noah and the great flood. This showed just how out of control things had become.
Psalms: God Sees the Wicked and the Hurting
In the Book of Psalms, especially Psalm 10 and Psalm 37, we see honesty about the reality of wickedness. Psalm 10 talks about people who are arrogant and greedy. They ignore God and take advantage of others. These individuals seem to have no consequences. But these Psalms also remind us that God is watching and cares about those who are hurt or treated unfairly. Psalm 37, for example, helps us remember that the so-called “success” of wicked people is only temporary. In the end, God will judge them fairly.
Proverbs: Don’t Be Fooled by the Wicked
The Book of Proverbs is full of wise sayings about life, often comparing good and bad choices. Proverbs 24:19-20 warns us. It advises not to get upset when evil people seem to be doing well. It also tells us not to envy them. Why? Because their success won’t last—they don’t have a future in the long run.
Where Does Wickedness Start?
Mark 7:20-23, in the New Testament, points out that wickedness isn’t just about what we do. It actually starts inside us, in our hearts and minds. Bad actions, harmful words, and mean attitudes all have their roots in what’s going on inside a person.
Who Handles Justice?
Sometimes, when we see people doing terrible things, it’s tempting to want to get revenge ourselves. But Romans 12:19 says we should leave that to God. We shouldn’t take matters into our own hands. God promises to set things right in his own way and time.
What Does This All Mean for Us?
The message is pretty simple when you put all these verses together. Wickedness is something that’s been around as long as people have. It usually starts in the heart. Even when it seems like those who do wrong are getting ahead, their time is limited. The Bible teaches this truth. God cares about justice, and in the end, he’s the one who will take care of it.
In other words, don’t let the wickedness in the world get you down. Don’t be tempted to respond with more wickedness. Instead, trust that God sees it all and will make things right.
