My People Do Not Know My Ways: A Simple Truth for Our Times

Why It’s Time to Get Real About God’s Way Forward

Let’s take a moment and talk honestly. It’s easy to feel uncertain about the direction we’re heading. This feeling arises when we look at everything happening around us in America right now. Maybe you’ve found yourself wondering, “Is this really how things are supposed to be? Is this what God wants for our lives?” If you have, you’re not alone.

A lot of what we see and hear these days doesn’t align with God’s calling for our lives. This is the truth. It’s no surprise that God often says, “My people do not know my Word.” They also do not know my Ways! Too many of us are searching for quick fixes. We grab onto the latest trends or catchy slogans. We hold onto whatever seems promising in the moment. But these things don’t last, and they definitely don’t fill the emptiness that so many people feel inside.

We’re often so caught up in what’s popular or what everyone else is doing. As a result, we’ve stopped asking, “What does God actually say about this?” The point isn’t about being perfect or following a long list of rules. It’s about letting God’s truth shape our hearts and actions, even when that means going against the flow.

This isn’t a new problem. The Bible tells us that the people of Israel made the same mistake. They wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. They didn’t know God’s ways or trust Him. This happened even after seeing everything God had done for them. Psalm 95:8-11 reminds us how God felt about that generation. They missed out on God’s rest because they kept going their own way instead of following Him.

God’s ways are on a whole different level than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9 puts it simply: “God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than ours.” Most of us, if we’re honest, don’t naturally think or act like God does. We try to figure things out on our own, but without Him, we’re walking in the dark.

Psalm 82:5 paints a clear picture. People stumble around in confusion and darkness. They don’t understand the ways of God. And Jeremiah 4:22 says it even more directly: “My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They’re good at doing wrong, but don’t know how to do good.” That’s a tough truth, but it’s meant to wake us up.

So, how long will we keep calling ourselves a Christian nation—yet ignore the truth of God’s Word? How long will we let ourselves be divided by race, religion, or politics, instead of standing together in what’s right? Proverbs 1:22-33 warns us. If we keep turning away from God’s wisdom, we’ll confront the consequences of our choices. We will be lost, searching, and dissatisfied.

How far do we need to fall before we realize it’s time for a change? The good news is, it’s not too late. Revelation 2:5 tells us: “Remember where you have fallen from, repent, and do the things you did at first.” In other words, wake up! Remember what really matters. Come back to God, let His truth shape your life, and things can turn around.

So, let’s get real. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being honest, turning back to God, and letting Him show us a better way. That’s the hope and the challenge for all of us today.

May God help us find our way!
