Getting Back To The Basics (Pt. 2): Why the Church Needs Honest Truth

Let’s Talk About What Matters Most

Have you ever left church feeling a little empty—like something was missing from the message? You’re not alone. Sometimes, the basics of Christianity, the simple truths that give us real hope and direction, can get lost in churches today. Whether it’s from the pulpit, on TV, or online, there’s a lot being said—but is it always what Jesus wanted us to hear?

Who’s in the Church?

There’s a wide mix of people in every church: some are brand-new believers, some have been around the block, and some aren’t sure what they believe at all. With so many backgrounds, it’s easy for the message to get watered down or for important truths to be overlooked.

The Struggle Is Real

If you feel troubled or even a little frustrated by what you hear, don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s not about being judgmental—it might just mean you care deeply about the real message of Jesus. Being active in your church and supporting your pastors is important, but our first loyalty should always be to Jesus Himself.

What If We’re Missing the Point?

Here’s a big question: what if you or your church is sharing a version of the gospel that isn’t quite right—and you don’t even realize it? Wouldn’t you want someone to kindly point it out so you could get back on track? Sometimes, the truth hurts, but it’s necessary for real growth and change.

Looking Back at the Bible

The Apostle Paul told Timothy to study and understand God’s word deeply—not to twist it or use it just to entertain, but to use it to help people truly know Jesus. The message isn’t just about sounding good or clever; it’s about changing lives.

Paul also warned the Galatians that it’s easy to drift away from the true message of Jesus and start believing something different—something that isn’t what He taught. That’s a serious warning for us today, too.

Are We Just Hearing What We Want?

The Bible says there will come a time when people only want to listen to messages that make them feel good or tell them what they want to hear. It’s important not to fall into that trap and instead stay focused on what’s true and life-giving.

Check It Out for Yourself

Paul praised the Bereans because they didn’t just accept what they were told—they checked the Scriptures for themselves to see if it was true. That’s something we can all do. Don’t just take someone’s word for it; read, ask questions, and search for truth.

Don’t Just Sleep Through It

Romans reminds us that now is the time to wake up and pay attention. Life is short, and the message of Jesus is too important to ignore or take lightly.

Let’s Be Wise

Just like the Sons of Issachar in the Bible, who understood the times and knew what to do, we should take a look at what we’re teaching and believing. Are we holding onto the basics—the things that really matter to Jesus?

If we get back to the basics, we’ll find real meaning, real direction, and real hope. Let’s keep searching, keep growing, and keep sharing the true message of Jesus with love and honesty.

God bless you.
