Why Deliverance Isn’t Enough
Have you ever heard the saying, “You’re only as free as your mind”? That idea is at the heart of a powerful truth: Real freedom isn’t just about being able to move around or making choices with your body—it starts in your mind.
Let’s break it down. Imagine someone who has been held back or oppressed for a long time, maybe even physically trapped. When that person is finally let go, we say they’ve been delivered—they’re physically free. But here’s the catch: if their thoughts, beliefs, and self-image are still chained up by old fears or lies, they’re not truly free.
This is the big point: Deliverance and freedom aren’t the same thing. Deliverance is when you’re taken out of a bad situation—like opening the door to a cage. But if you never learn to walk out and think differently, you’re still stuck. Freedom is what happens when your mind is set free—when you start believing new things and see yourself in a new light.
There’s even a famous saying from the Bible: “As a person thinks in their heart, so are they” (Prov. 23:7). That means your life is shaped by what you believe and think about yourself. Jesus himself said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (Jn. 8:32). He wasn’t just talking about laws or bolts on a door—he was talking about understanding something so deeply that it changes the way you think.
Many people who come out of hard times or oppression get frustrated because they think getting out is all there is to it. But if your mind is still trapped by old ways of thinking, you’ll stay stuck. Real freedom is about your mindset. You’re not truly free until you think free.
So remember: physical deliverance is just the first step. True freedom is a journey inside your mind. To be truly free, you have to let your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes break out of those old cages too.
