Understanding God’s Perspective on Justice, Race, and Speaking Up
Sometimes, life’s biggest changes start with a simple truth being spoken—especially when it challenges those in charge. That’s what “Truth Speaks To Power” means: standing up and telling what’s right, even when it’s hard, and even if it means disagreeing with leaders or the majority.
At its heart, the Bible teaches that God cares about everyone, everywhere—not just a certain country or group of people. God created all of us, and He sees beyond skin color or where we come from. Instead, God sees our hearts, our actions, and the way we treat each other. We’re all connected as His children.
Jesus said if we follow His teachings, we’ll learn the truth, and the truth will set us free (John 8:31-32). This means real freedom comes from living honestly, caring for others, and doing what’s right—even when it’s tough.
The sad reality is that, sometimes, even people who believe in God miss the mark. Churches and faith communities have often stayed quiet about hard issues—like racism or injustice—when they should’ve spoken up. But God calls those who follow Him to stand for what’s right, not just inside church walls but out in the real world, especially when people are being treated unfairly.
No matter which political party someone leads, all leaders are responsible for making sure everyone is treated fairly and justly. If they don’t, they answer to God, who cares deeply about justice and mercy.
The saying goes, “Pride comes before a fall.” If we put ourselves above others or encourage division—whether in politics, the church, or everyday life—it only leads to trouble. The Bible reminds us that whatever we put out into the world, good or bad, that’s what we’ll get back (Galatians 6:7; Hosea 8:7).
America, like many places, has struggled with the problem of racism for a long time. The Bible makes it clear that every person is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), and that in God’s eyes, no one is better than anyone else (Galatians 3:28). So, if we claim to follow Jesus, we can’t ignore injustices or stay silent when we see people being mistreated because of their race or background.
Throughout history, when God’s people went off course, He used prophets—people who spoke tough truths—to call them back to what’s right. Sometimes, the message was simple: repent (turn away from wrong), seek God, and live (Amos 5:6). The same call applies today.
Right now, our nation is at a tipping point—a moment where big change is possible and needed. Racism isn’t just a bad habit; it’s a deep wrong that goes against everything God stands for. We can’t move forward until we face this truth and work to make things right.
There’s hope. The Gospel (the message of Jesus) is for everyone, no exceptions. God offers forgiveness, new beginnings, and equal blessings to anyone who believes. It’s not about one race or group being better—it’s about all of us being welcomed into God’s family.
So what can we do? Start small: treat every person with respect, kindness, and fairness. Use your voice for good, even if it means speaking uncomfortable truths to those in charge. Remember: “The time is always right to do what is right.” (Martin Luther King Jr.)
When we choose truth, justice, and love, we help create a world that reflects God’s heart. And in the end, we’ll all answer for how we treated others. May God’s peace give us courage and wisdom as we speak truth to power.
Blessings to you.
