The Power of Faith: Trusting in the Invisible

Faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1)

Faith is a mysterious yet transformative force. It calls us to trust not in what is visible and tangible but in the promises of God that transcend our natural understanding. The writer of Hebrews defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). This powerful truth invites us to fix our eyes not on our circumstances but on the unseen glory of God’s promises—a challenge that requires courage, perseverance, and unwavering trust.

In 2004, I embarked on a journey of faith that forever altered the course of my life. It was a path uncertain, yet filled with divine purpose. God called me into His destiny and purpose as a minister of the gospel, and it was by trusting in the unseen, leaning into fellowship with the Holy One, and heeding the guidance of the Holy Spirit that I have come this far. This journey has been neither perfect nor complete, but like the Apostle Paul, I continue to press “toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

Faith, as I have discovered, moves mountains. It is not passive or stagnant; it is dynamic and transformative. Jesus Himself said, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20). Faith is the divine substance that brings God’s promises into reality. It is the bridge between the natural and the supernatural, the seen and the unseen.

Faith in the Midst of Uncertainty

Life often brings seasons of uncertainty, seasons where the path ahead seems shrouded in shadows. It is in these moments that faith becomes our anchor. During my own seasons of doubt and fear, I have learned that faith is not about having all the answers but about trusting the One who does. God’s promises are not bound by human timelines or circumstances. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

For those navigating uncertain times, I want to encourage you: trust in the unseen realm of God’s promises. Faith does not deny the reality of our struggles but transcends them, lifting our eyes to the eternal truths of God’s Word. “Fear not,” the Lord says, “for it will surely happen in His appointed time. He is not a man that He should lie” (Numbers 23:19).

Guarding Your Faith

Faith is precious, but it is also vulnerable. One of the greatest threats to our faith is unbelief. Doubt, discouragement, and unmet expectations can cloud our hearts and cause us to question God’s Word. The enemy often uses our natural circumstances to tempt us into disbelief, but we must stand firm in the promises of God.

Unbelief can rob you of the joy and power of faith. Consider the example of Moses, who by faith persevered against insurmountable odds. Hebrews 11:27 tells us, “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.” Moses’ ability to trust in the invisible God allowed him to rise above the chaos and lead the Israelites to freedom.

In the same way, we must train our spiritual eyes to see beyond the visible. Faith calls us to look at the promises of God rather than the obstacles before us. It calls us to declare, “I will stand on His Word, no matter what I see, feel, or experience.”

Faith and the Role of Prayer

Faith and prayer are inseparable. Faith fuels our prayers, and prayer strengthens our faith. When we pray, we align our will with God’s and invite His power into our lives. However, we must remember that we cannot carry the faith burden for others. While we can stand in the gap and intercede through prayer, each individual must choose to trust God for themselves.

It is easy to let the mountains of others—be they discouragement, fear, or unbelief—become obstacles in our own faith journey. While compassion is a vital part of our Christian walk, we must guard against allowing others’ struggles to lead us into doubt. Instead, we can pray in agreement with them, standing alongside them as they learn to trust in God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Pressing Toward the Mark

Faith is not a one-time decision but a lifelong pursuit. It is a journey marked by perseverance, growth, and transformation. As believers, we are called to “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means trusting God even when the path is unclear, even when the promises seem delayed. It means pressing toward the mark, knowing that God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in us (Philippians 1:6).

To those who are weary, I say: do not give up. Keep believing in your heart what God has spoken to you. Remember the words of the Apostle Paul: “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9).

Conclusion: The Gift of Faith

Faith is a gift, a divine grace that enables us to trust in the invisible and believe in the impossible. It is the key that unlocks the treasures of heaven and brings them into our lives. As you continue your own journey of faith, I encourage you to hold fast to God’s promises. Fear not, for the God who called you is faithful, and He will surely bring His Word to pass.

Rise up in faith, and begin to move the mountains that stand in your way. Trust not in what you see but in the One who is invisible, for His power, His love, and His promises are eternal. Keep pressing toward the mark, for the prize is worth the journey.
