What Galatians 6:6-11 Means for Us Today
Let’s be real: showing up to church and “doing church” isn’t the same as truly being the church. The Bible says, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked”—meaning, we can’t fool God with a good show.
Many people act religious on the outside. Maybe they go to church, say the right things, or do what looks good in front of others. But God looks deeper. He sees our hearts, not just our actions or the image we put on. We might trick other people with our church routine, but God knows if we’re really living out our faith or just pretending.
Galatians 6:6-11 tells it straight: our lives are like planting seeds. The way we live now is like seed time—the real harvest comes later. If we plant seeds that only satisfy our selfish wants (“to the flesh”), we won’t get anything good in the end—only regret. But if we let the Holy Spirit guide us and try to live like Jesus, we’re planting seeds that will reap eternal life.
It’s easy to get tired of doing good or showing kindness, especially when we don’t see results right away. But Paul tells us to keep going. The reward comes to those who stick with it—not those who give up.
So, what does “being the church” mean? It means making a real effort to love others, help where you can, and let God’s Spirit shape your choices every day. It’s not just about Sunday mornings or activities—it’s about who you are and how you live all week long.
Let’s not settle for just “doing church.” Let’s be the church—living out God’s love, doing good when opportunities come up, and making that the focus of our daily lives. God sees it all, and He won’t be tricked by appearances. The harvest we reap tomorrow depends on the seeds we plant today.
