Understanding the Importance of Accepting God’s Truth
When talking about Christianity, one of the big ideas is that God is the ultimate source of truth—He never lies, and everything He reveals is trustworthy. But what happens when people reject that truth? Let’s explore this in everyday language.
What Does It Mean to Reject Truth?
In Christian belief, rejecting the truth is more than just saying “I don’t agree.” It’s a conscious choice to turn away from what God has shown as true. The Bible says that God’s truth is available and knowable, but sometimes people choose to ignore or suppress it. This isn’t just an innocent mistake; it’s seen as an act of unrighteousness—a willful decision to avoid what’s right.
Where Do Lies Come From?
According to Jesus, the main source of lies is the devil, who is called “the father of lies.” In John 8:44, Jesus describes the devil as someone in whom there is no truth at all. When people reject God’s truth, they’re not just left in a neutral spot—they’re open to accepting lies and being deceived.
What Are the Consequences?
The Bible teaches that turning away from the truth has serious results. For example:
· Believing lies: Romans 1:18-25 talks about people who “suppress the truth” and end up believing all sorts of false ideas. Over time, they become more comfortable with wrong things because they refuse to listen to what God has revealed.
· Spiritual harm: 2 Thessalonians 2:10 warns that those who refuse to “love the truth” end up being tricked by lies and miss out on being saved.
· Facing consequences: The Bible mentions God’s wrath as a result of willfully turning away from Him. In other words, there are spiritual consequences for choosing lies over the truth.
Rejecting Jesus Is Rejecting God
In Christian teaching, Jesus is seen as the ultimate expression of God’s truth. He even said, “Anyone who rejects me rejects God who sent me” (see Luke 10:16). So, saying “no” to the truth about Jesus isn’t just about personal opinion; it’s seen as saying “no” to God Himself.
Why Does Truth Matter?
Jesus once said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). This means that truth has the power to free people—from lies, from confusion, and from the things that separate them from God. Accepting God’s truth, according to Christianity, leads to real freedom and life.
In Summary
Christian theology sees rejecting truth as a serious and willful choice that brings spiritual consequences. It’s not just missing out on facts; it’s opening the door to deception, turning away from God, and risking a life built on lies rather than reality. That’s why, in Christianity, embracing the truth God offers is at the heart of faith and spiritual well-being.
