Being Christian Is Not a Clique: Rediscovering Purpose and Power

A Reflection on Faith, Community, and the Next Move of God

Sometimes, people look at Christians and think it’s just another “group” or social club—a clique you’re either part of or left out from. But being Christian isn’t about being exclusive or forming tight circles that close out others. It’s about opening our arms, hearts, and lives to the world, reflecting the love that God shows to everyone.

The Struggle Within God’s Institutions

Let’s be real: Many of God’s institutions—churches, ministries, and places meant for healing and hope—have struggled. When these institutions stumble, it’s not just the building or leadership that suffers; the whole Kingdom feels it. The church, in particular, sometimes loses its way, forgetting its true purpose and sense of direction. We get caught up in routines, traditions, and even popularity contests, forgetting why we’re here in the first place.

God’s Unchanging Nature

But there’s one thing that never changes: God. He’s immutable—that means he doesn’t change. The Bible tells us He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. While the world shifts and trends come and go, God’s love, truth, and promises remain steady and true.

Beyond Applause: Living the Sermon

Too often, church becomes a place where we hear a great sermon, clap, and then go back to life as usual. But faith isn’t just about the big moments or powerful messages—it’s about what we do next. Are we taking what we hear and living it out? Are we letting God’s word shape our actions, families, and communities?

Hebrews 12:1 encourages us: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” It’s a reminder that faith is an ongoing journey, not just a one-time event.

The Power of Truth

Truth isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a force that frees us. Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Truth empowers us to break free from old habits, shame, and confusion. And that truth isn’t hidden—it’s found in Christ, in His teachings, and in the stories of how God works in everyday lives.

The Next Great Move of God

God isn’t done working. The next great move of God won’t just touch individuals—it will ripple through families, churches, cities, and nations. It’s not about building walls, but about building bridges—connecting people with love and truth, and showing them the freedom God offers.

Faith and the Power of Story

Faith is not just taught, it’s caught—it’s ignited when we hear how God has changed someone’s life, healed a broken heart, or restored a family. That’s the power of story. When we share how God has moved in our lives, faith is released—not just in us, but in those who hear.

Moving Forward Together

Being Christian isn’t about forming cliques or drawing lines. It’s about inviting others to run the race with us, standing on the truth that sets us free, and sharing stories that ignite faith in hearts everywhere. Let’s do more than just go through the motions—let’s live out our faith, trusting in the God who never changes. The next great move starts with each of us, right where we are.
