Understanding “Faith to Faith, Glory to Glory,” and Being Persecuted for Righteousness
Let’s face it—doing the right thing isn’t always popular. In fact, sometimes choosing to live with integrity and stand up for what’s good can make life a little harder. But did you know Jesus actually said we’re blessed when we face pushback for doing what’s right?
From Faith to Faith, Glory to Glory
The journey of following Jesus is often described as moving “from faith to faith, glory to glory.” In simple terms, it means that as we trust God more and more, and stick close to Him, we grow spiritually. Each step we take—each time we trust God through hard situations—takes us higher, making us stronger and more like Jesus. It’s about progress, not perfection.
Persecuted for Righteousness’ Sake—What Does That Mean?
Jesus talked about a special kind of blessing: being treated badly just because you’re trying to do what’s right. In Matthew 5:11-12, He says:
“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
In plain English: When you’re insulted, left out, or even bullied for doing what’s right, you’re in good company. The prophets—folks who delivered God’s messages—were treated the same way.
Why Would People Be Persecuted for Doing Good?
It seems backwards. Why would standing up for what’s right make you a target? Sadly, in our world, genuine goodness can make some people uncomfortable—especially if they benefit from things staying unfair.
For example:
· If you stand up for a coworker who’s being gossiped about or discriminated against, some people might turn on you, too.
· If you’re a leader and speak out against an unfair practice, you might lose popularity or even your position.
The truth is, when we shine a light on injustice, those who profit from the darkness often try to shut us down.
The Hidden Blessing
Here’s the good news: facing persecution for doing what’s right is actually a sign you’re making a difference. Jesus says to “rejoice and be glad”—not because it feels good, but because it means you’re part of a much bigger story. You’re on the same team as those who have stood for God’s kingdom throughout history.
And your reward? It’s not just in this life, but in the next. When we keep trusting God—moving from faith to faith, glory to glory—even through tough times, He promises that what’s ahead is greater than anything we lose now.
Keep Going—You’re Not Alone
So if you’re facing hardship for doing the right thing, don’t give up! You’re not alone, and you’re not forgotten. Each step you take in faith is building something beautiful in you—something that shines with God’s glory.
Remember: real courage isn’t the absence of trouble. It’s standing firm when doing good gets hard. And that, according to Jesus, is the kind of life that truly brings blessing.
