Reflections on Christianity’s Changing Influence in America

Why Repentance, Revival, and Reformation Matter for Renewing Faith

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how Christianity seems to be declining in America. You don’t have to look far to see that churches aren’t as full as they used to be, and it feels like faith isn’t as central to our culture as it once was. People have a lot of different opinions about why this is happening—some say society is changing, others point to mistakes made by the church, and many just feel disconnected from what faith means in daily life.

Never was a church-wide, heaven-sent revival needed more than at this present time. It is the only answer to the spiritual warfare we face in every part of the world”. Dr. Stephen F. Olford, Heart Cry for Revival

Whatever the reason, I believe that if we want to see true faith come alive again in America, three things are essential: repentance, revival, and reformation.

First, repentance is about recognizing where we’ve gone off track, both as individuals and as a community. It’s not just about feeling bad for what’s happened, but about being honest, turning around, and choosing a better path forward.

Second, revival means bringing new life to what’s grown stale. It’s about renewing our passion for the core values of Christianity—love, hope, forgiveness, and service. Revival isn’t just a big event or a short-term emotional high; it’s a deep change in the way people live and relate to each other.

Finally, reformation is about making real changes in our lives and in the larger church. It’s not enough to just wish things were different—we have to ask tough questions and be willing to update old ways of doing things that no longer help people connect with God and each other.

I believe these three steps—repentance, revival, and reformation—are the key to bringing real faith back to the heart of America. It’s not just about saving institutions or traditions. It’s about helping people rediscover the hope and meaning that faith can bring to their lives and to our culture as a whole.

Let’s keep the conversation going. What do you think is needed for faith to thrive again in America?
