Living with a Kingdom Mindset
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).
As followers of Christ, it is essential to remember who we are at our core—Kingdom citizens first and foremost. This truth shapes our identity, our values, and our purpose in life. We belong to God’s Kingdom, and as citizens of heaven, we are called to live with a Kingdom mindset, reflecting our allegiance to the Lord in all that we do.
Unified in Christ
Ephesians 2:16-20 reminds us that we are no longer strangers or foreigners but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of His household. Together, we form one body, united under Christ Jesus, the chief cornerstone. Our citizenship is not just a title; it is a calling, shaping our beliefs, actions, and priorities.
This shared identity transcends earthly divisions and binds us together in a profound way. As members of God’s household, we are called to live in harmony, building our lives on the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, with Christ at the center.
What Is a Kingdom Mindset?
A mindset is defined as a fixed mental attitude or disposition that determines how we respond to and interpret life’s situations. A Kingdom mindset, therefore, is one ruled by God’s will, purposes, and plans. It is a way of thinking and living that reflects His desires for us and for the world.
To develop a Kingdom mindset, we must renew our thinking to align with heavenly perspectives. Romans 14:17-18 teaches us that the Kingdom of God is not about earthly matters like eating and drinking, but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. This mindset enables us to serve Christ in a way that pleases God and shines His light to others.
A Call to Co-Labor
As Kingdom citizens, we are co-workers with God, entrusted with carrying out His agenda on earth. Jesus prayed, “Thy Kingdom come,” and declared that the Kingdom of God is within us. This means that our lives are meant to manifest the principles and values of heaven here on earth. We are called to live with the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), reflecting His love, grace, and truth in all we do.
The work God has assigned to His people is unique and purposeful. As individuals, we each possess gifts that contribute to His greater plan. As a collective body, we are “God’s field, God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9), working together to fulfill His standards and purposes. Now is the time to embrace this calling, standing firm in the Spirit and striving together for the faith of the gospel (Philippians 1:27-30).
Moving Beyond Perfunctory Worship
Early on December 8, 2016, during a time of meditation, I sensed the word “perfunctory” in my spirit. Defined as “characterized by routine or superficiality,” the term sadly describes much of modern Christian worship. Many go through the motions without enthusiasm or genuine connection to God. As Matthew 15:8-9 warns, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
As Kingdom citizens, we are called to experience the fullness of life that Jesus Christ offers (John 10:10). Worship should be vibrant, heartfelt, and transformative, not hollow or routine. To effectively co-labor with God, we must cultivate a fixed mental attitude ruled by Him—one that governs our responses and interpretations of life’s situations.
Now Is the Time
It is time to move beyond mere church programs and activities. Let us become Kingdom-focused, conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The world needs to witness the light of the glorious gospel shining through God’s people. Let us stand firm, unshaken by opposition, and live boldly for Christ, even if it means suffering for His sake.
May the grace, joy, and peace of God be yours through Jesus Christ, our loving Lord. To Him be glory now and forever.
Blessings,
