What It Really Means to Be a Christian

Looking Beyond Labels and Truly Following Jesus

It’s surprising, really, how many people say they are Christians but actually know very little about who God is, how He works, or what the Bible teaches. Sometimes, it feels like being a Christian is just a label or something you do on Sundays, rather than a way of life. But claiming the Christian faith is not just about sitting in a church pew—it’s about genuinely following Jesus Christ every day.

To be a true Christian means to care about what Jesus taught and to try to live it out. It’s not just about attending church services, singing songs, or keeping up appearances. It’s about having a real relationship with God and letting that change the way you treat others, make decisions, and live your life.

The Bible says that God watches over all the nations and sees everything we do. He gives everyone what they deserve based on their actions. This means our choices matter, and how we treat others is important. It’s not enough to call ourselves Christians—we need to actually act like it.

Unfortunately, there are times when the behavior of those who claim to be Christians is disappointing, even shameful. It’s easy to say you believe, but it’s much harder to live it out, especially when it comes to being honest, kind, and loving. If we truly want to represent Jesus, we need to know God’s Word and His ways, and let them shape who we are.

Jesus gave His life on Calvary for everyone. One day, each of us will stand before the judgment seat and answer for how we’ve lived. Let’s keep in mind that being a Christian goes beyond just speaking words or following routines. It means truly following Jesus—building a relationship with God, living according to His teachings, and allowing Him to direct every aspect of our lives.
