John the Baptist, described as a “voice crying in the wilderness,” exemplified this prophetic mandate. The apostle Paul echoes this in the New Testament, writing, “Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work of what sort it is” (1 Corinthians 3:13). Similarly, Timothy is exhorted, “If anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy” (2 Timothy 2:20-21).
Purification is not a one-time event but a continual process. As individuals and as a nation, we are called to submit ourselves to God’s refining work, allowing Him to remove what hinders righteousness and justice.

The ultimate foundation of righteousness is found in Jesus Christ. The New Testament teaches that righteousness is not earned by human effort but received through faith. “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed… through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all who believe” (Romans 3:21-26). Through Christ’s sacrifice, believers are justified—declared righteous before God—and empowered to live lives that reflect His character.

The Bible’s view of government is not political but moral—calling for leaders who reflect God’s character and serve the common good. As citizens and believers, we have a responsibility to advocate for and support righteous leadership.

In times of national challenge, Scripture instructs believers to pray for those in authority. “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Prayer is a powerful tool for shaping the destiny of nations, inviting God’s wisdom and intervention in the affairs of government.
Franklin Roosevelt once said, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic.” His words remind us that the spiritual health of a nation is inseparable from its moral foundations.
