Knowing God: The Greatest Glory

Discovering the Heart of Jeremiah’s Message and the Joy of a Real Relationship with God

Introduction: Jeremiah’s Message and Why It Matters

In a world where people chase after recognition, success, and so many things that promise happiness, one ancient voice stands out with a different message. The prophet Jeremiah wrote, “Let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me.” (Jeremiah 9:24) In simple terms, Jeremiah is saying that if we’re going to find real joy or something to be proud of, it should be that we know God—not just facts about Him, but truly know Him like a friend. This idea is life-changing and deeply personal. Let’s explore what it means for us today.

God Speaks Personally: How Scripture Becomes Real

Many people think of the Bible as a big, old book full of rules or stories from long ago. But Scripture is much more than that—it’s God’s way of speaking to us personally. When you read the Bible, you’re not just reading about someone else’s experience. God uses His words to reach into your life and heart, showing you who He is and how much He cares. Sometimes, a verse jumps out just when you need it most. Other times, a story or a promise feels like it was written just for you. This is God communicating directly, inviting you into a relationship with Him.

A Humbling Encounter: Facing Our Own Need

Meeting God through His Word isn’t always comfortable. In fact, it can be humbling. When we see God’s goodness, patience, and love, we also see our own weaknesses and need for help. But this isn’t meant to shame us—it’s an invitation to be honest and real. God doesn’t expect us to have it all together. He wants us to come as we are, with our questions, doubts, hopes, and struggles. That’s the starting point of knowing Him: being open to learning and changing as He speaks to our hearts.

God’s Invitation: Friendship and Partnership with the Creator

One of the most amazing truths in the Bible is that God wants more than just our obedience or belief—He wants friendship. Imagine the Creator of the universe inviting you into partnership with Him! Knowing God means you’re not alone in facing life’s challenges. He walks with you, guides you, and even shares His heart with you. This partnership isn’t about following a bunch of rules; it’s about entering into a living, growing relationship where you can talk to God, listen for His guidance, and join Him in what He’s doing in the world.

Transformation: Life with God Changes Everything

Knowing God changes us from the inside out. It’s not about becoming perfect overnight, but about letting God shape our hearts, attitudes, and actions. As we understand His love and character, we become more loving, patient, and kind ourselves. Our priorities shift, and we start to see others through God’s eyes. This transformation is gradual, but it’s real. The more we know God, the more we reflect His goodness in our everyday lives.

What It Means to Know God: Listening, Learning, Responding, Rejoicing

·      Listening to His Word: Take time to read the Bible, even a few verses a day. Ask God to speak to you through what you read.

·      Understanding His Character: Pay attention to what Scripture reveals about who God is—His love, justice, mercy, and faithfulness.

·      Responding to His Invitations: When you sense God nudging you—maybe to forgive someone, to trust Him in a difficult situation, or to help someone in need—say “yes.” These moments are opportunities to grow closer.

·      Rejoicing in His Love: Don’t forget to celebrate the ways God shows up in your life. Thank Him for answered prayers, unexpected blessings, and even the strength to get through tough days.

Conclusion: The Privilege and Joy of Knowing and Serving God

The greatest thing we can ever experience is not found in status, achievements, or possessions—it’s found in knowing God. Jeremiah’s words remind us that real glory is not about what we do, but about who we know. God invites each of us into a relationship that brings humility, transformation, and deep joy. May we listen for His voice, respond to His love, and rejoice in the privilege of walking with Him every day.
