Especially during trials, Christianity teaches us to remain joyful, understanding that difficulties are sent from God’s love to strengthen our faith and character. Rather than praying solely for afflictions to be removed, we are invited to ask for wisdom to make right use of them. When patience, rather than passion, guides our responses, we become equipped for the Christian journey and warfare. In every discouraging moment, God’s promise stands firm: anyone who asks will receive.
Living with a Proper Perspective on Time
Proverbs 9:11 states, “For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.” True wisdom, found in walking with God and embracing His ordinances, brings lasting fulfillment and spiritual longevity. The call to wisdom is universal, excluding only those who exclude themselves. We are cautioned against seeking the company of the ungodly or pursuing foolish pleasures, for such paths lead away from the joy and peace found in a holy life. Instead, we are called to join those who walk in wisdom, recognizing that our choices impact not only our present but our eternal future.
Trusting God to Guide Our Steps
Proverbs 16:9 teaches, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” While we may make plans and set goals, it is ultimately God who directs our path. Even the wicked are used by God to fulfill His purposes, and believers can trust that by seeking God’s glory and following His will, their steps will be guided by His Spirit and grace. Honest living and justice in all dealings are God’s appointments, and it is better to have little gained righteously than much amassed unjustly. The Lord holds all hearts in His hand and can bring peace even with our enemies.
Maintaining Contentment and Perspective
Ecclesiastes 7:10 warns, “Do not say, ‘Why were the old days better than these?’ For it is not wise to ask this.” It is easy to fall into nostalgia or discontent, lamenting the present in favor of the past. However, wisdom calls us to examine our own hearts rather than complain about our times. Each era has its trials, but also its mercies. Patience, not pride or anger, is the mark of a wise spirit. Anger may visit the wise, but it does not dwell with them. Instead of longing for former days, we are called to recognize and rejoice in the blessings God provides now, trusting that His purposes are unfolding even in adversity.
Finding a Sure Foundation in God
Isaiah 33:6 proclaims, “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.” When all other supports fail, God remains steadfast. Trusting in Him, rather than human strength or wisdom, yields true security and salvation. Each day, we are invited to commit ourselves to God’s care and go forth in His strength. The treasures of wisdom, knowledge, and piety can never be diminished or taken away, and those who wait for God will find Him gracious and faithful.

1 Corinthians 2:7 reveals, “Instead, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom God destined before the ages for our glory.” The wisdom of God, manifest in Christ’s redemptive work, is a mystery now revealed to those enlightened by the Holy Spirit. It is a wisdom that cannot be fully grasped by human senses or teaching, but must be received as God has revealed it in Scripture. Those who love and wait for God are promised blessings beyond imagination, prepared for them from the foundation of the world.
