What “Be Not Conformed” Means to Me

Desiring to Please the Lord in Everyday Life

When I hear the words “be not conformed,” it makes me stop and think about what it truly means for how I live my life. In simple terms, to “be not conformed” is like saying, “Don’t just go along with what everyone else does.” It’s a reminder to not let the world shape how I think, act, or make choices, especially if those things don’t line up with what I believe is right.

Deep down, what comes to my mind and heart is a strong desire to be pleasing to the Lord. It’s not just about following rules or looking good on the outside. It’s about wanting my life to reflect what God wants for me. I want my actions, my words, and even my thoughts to be something that makes God smile.

Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in what’s popular or what everyone else is doing—whether it’s the latest trends, opinions, or pressures around us. But “be not conformed” encourages me to stand firm and make choices that honor God, even if they’re different from what’s common or easy. It’s a daily decision to ask, “Will this make me more like Jesus? Will this please the Lord?”

At its core, being “not conformed” isn’t about being stubborn or judgmental. It’s about having a heart that wants to follow God above all else. It means saying “yes” to His ways, even if they go against the grain, and trusting that living to please Him is the best way to live. That’s what truly comes to mind and heart whenever I think about these words.
