Understanding the Difference Between Saying and Living Our Faith
In today’s world, it’s common to see people talk about God in discussions about politics, government, and public institutions. We often hear leaders, organizations, and even everyday folks mention God when promoting policies or defending their beliefs. It’s almost as if we’re trying to put God on display as a stamp of approval for our actions or decisions.
God in the Headlines, But Not in the Heart?
But here’s the thing: mentioning God in public doesn’t always mean we have a real relationship with Him. Sometimes, God is brought into debates, laws, and institutions as a symbol or slogan, but He isn’t truly present in our lives or worship. It’s like talking about someone you’ve only read about, instead of someone you really know and love.
Why Does This Happen?
For many, religion or faith is more about tradition or culture than a personal connection. We’re quick to associate God with our nation’s values or our community’s rules, but we might not spend time praying, reflecting, or genuinely seeking His guidance. This can lead to a disconnect—God’s name is used, but His presence isn’t felt in our hearts.
The Importance of Authentic Worship
True worship isn’t just about reciting prayers or going to church on Sundays. It’s about having a real, ongoing relationship with God. When we bring God into our politics and institutions without this personal connection, we risk turning faith into just another tool or talking point, instead of a source of love and wisdom.
What Can We Do?
· Take time to know God personally, not just as a concept.
· Let your actions reflect your faith, not just your words.
· Encourage honest, heartfelt worship in your community.
· Ask yourself whether you’re inviting God into your life—before inviting Him into your politics.
In short, let’s make sure that when we talk about God in our politics and institutions, we’re not just using His name, but truly living His teachings in our everyday lives. That’s the difference between simply mentioning God and truly knowing Him.
