Have Faith in God

Strength for the Journey: Deepening Trust in God

Faith stands as the cornerstone of the Christian walk, shaping how we see the world and respond to life’s challenges. Drawing inspiration from First Baptist Church St. Charles, let’s reflect on what it means to have faith in God. We can embrace it in our lives. Scripture and the teachings of Jesus illuminate this vital practice.

What Does It Mean to Have Faith in God?

Having faith in God is an active, living trust. It involves:

·      Belief and Trust: Accept who God is. Believe what scripture reveals about Him. Choose to rely on His character and promises.

·      The Substance of Things Hoped For: Faith is described as assurance of things hoped for. It is a conviction in realities beyond sight. It’s a confidence anchored in God’s unseen work.

·      Surrendering Control: True faith means letting go of our need to control every outcome. It involves entrusting our lives to God’s wisdom and care.

·      Growing Relationship: Faith flourishes as we draw closer to God. We deepen our relationship through trust. Worship strengthens us. We rely on Him for guidance.

How to Cultivate Faith

Faith is not static—it grows as we engage with God and His word:

·      Study Scripture: Immerse yourself in the Bible, seeking truth and encouragement for the journey.

·      Be Honest with Doubts: Bring your questions to God, confessing your uncertainties as you seek understanding.

·      Find Community: Share joys and struggles with fellow believers who can support and pray for you.

·      Practice Spiritual Disciplines: Spend regular time with God in prayer and gratitude, nurturing your relationship.

·      Walk in the Holy Spirit: Allow the Spirit to shape your thoughts and actions according to faith.

·      Wait on God: Practice patience, trusting in God’s timing and guidance for every situation.

Biblical Lessons on Faith

The story of the withered fig tree, found in the Gospels, teaches us powerful truths. The disciples were surprised by how quickly the tree withered at Jesus’ word. This was a sign that all who reject Christ lose vitality. Those who embrace Him are called to bear good fruit. Jesus used this moment to urge His followers to pray with unwavering faith. This is a faith that justifies, purifies, and overcomes great obstacles. This kind of faith removes mountains of guilt and corruption, transforming hearts by God’s grace.

Daily, we are invited to approach the throne of grace, seeking forgiveness and nourishment for our souls. Faith is God’s gift—rooted in His power, goodness, and unwavering truth.

The Invitation

Jesus tells His disciples, “Have faith in God.” He is inviting them—and us—to accept faith that is anchored in God Himself. He asks us to exercise this faith. This faith is “the work of God,” sustained by His love and faithfulness. Whether facing small challenges or great mountains, God calls us to trust Him. We should believe and rely on Him. We know He is always faithful.

Let us walk in faith. Let us bear fruit. Let us grow ever closer to the One who is the source and object of our hope.
