Looking to Jesus: A Simple Journey of Faith

Understanding What It Means to “Look Unto Jesus” in Everyday Life

What Does “Looking Unto Jesus” Mean?

When people talk about “looking unto Jesus,” they mean focusing on Him. It involves paying attention to who He is and what He has done. This focus is especially important when life gets hard. It’s about trusting Him instead of getting caught up in our problems, mistakes, or the things happening around us. The idea comes from the Bible. It tells us to keep our eyes on Jesus. He started our faith and will help us finish strong.

Why Focus on Jesus?

·      He Shows Us How to Endure: Jesus went through tough times and suffering. He stayed strong because He knew joy would come later. When we remember His example, it helps us handle our own struggles.

·      He’s Our Guide and Strength: Jesus is the one who began our journey of faith. He will help us get through it. He forgives, supports, and gives us the power to keep going.

·      He Helps Us Grow: By looking to Jesus, we find peace. We gain courage to run our own race. This helps us stop comparing ourselves to others.

How Do We “Look Unto Jesus”?

·      Change Your Focus: Instead of worrying about the bad stuff or getting distracted, turn your attention to Jesus.

·      Lean on Him: Trust Jesus to help you in every situation and thought.

·      Live for Him: Use your life to honor Jesus and make a positive difference in the world.

Running the Race of Faith

Life can feel like a race, with ups and downs. The Bible teaches that we should run this race by keeping our eyes on Jesus. Sometimes, there are sins or habits that trip us up—these are the things we struggle with the most. If we let them control us, it’s hard to keep running. But when we focus on Jesus, we gain strength. Remembering what He went through for us helps us persevere, even when life is difficult.

God sometimes allows tough times (or “correction”) not to punish us, but to help us grow. Just like parents discipline their kids to help them learn, God uses challenges to shape us into better people. These moments aren’t meant to crush us—they’re to help us become stronger and more faithful.

Jesus in Real Life: Simple Stories

To understand what Jesus is like, let’s look at two simple stories:

·      At a Wedding: Jesus was at a wedding. They ran out of wine. This would have been embarrassing for the family. Quietly, Jesus turned water into wine, saving the day and making the celebration even better. This demonstrates that Jesus helps us when we’re in trouble. He lifts us up when we’re down. He can turn our failures into something good.

·      With the Samaritan Woman: Jesus spoke with a woman who felt rejected and had a rough past. Normally, people wouldn’t talk to her, but Jesus did. He treated her kindly and told her He was the Savior. He showed that He cares about everyone, no matter their background. He gave her hope and a new start, showing us to treat others with kindness and respect.

Looking to Jesus Together

Focusing on Jesus isn’t just something we do alone. We gather with friends, family, or our community to talk about Him. We sing or pray together. His presence feels even stronger. We encourage each other to trust Him more and experience His love in new ways.

Seeing Jesus in Everyday Life

We don’t have to wait for big miracles to look to Jesus. We can do it daily—when we’re praying quietly, singing with others, or helping someone in need. The more we focus on Him, the more our worries fade and our hearts fill with peace.

What Makes Jesus Special?

Jesus is amazing because He brings joy, takes away shame, and treats everyone with dignity. He forgives freely and loves deeply. He has the power to change us from the inside out. By looking to Him, we discover what true love really means.

Let Jesus Change Your Life

When we keep our eyes on Jesus, our lives start to change. His love covers our mistakes and fills us with hope. This journey started long ago, but it continues today for each of us.

So let’s come together—not pretending we have everything figured out, but honestly wanting to see Jesus. Let’s look to Him and let His goodness shape us. When we focus on Jesus as a community, His presence brings new life to us. It also brings new life to the world around us. What an incredible Savior we have!
