A Layman’s Perspective on Division, Choices, and Consequences
Sometimes, when I turn on the news or scroll through social media, I can’t help but feel discouraged by all the arguing and division I see in our country. As a Christian it clear that we’re not really living as “one nation under God,” like we say we are. The way we treat each other—quick tempers, harsh words, and a lack of understanding—feels so far from the unity and kindness that phrase is supposed to represent.
There’s a verse in the Bible that says, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. You reap what you sow.” Put simply, it means our choices matter—what we put out into the world comes back to us, both as individuals and as a nation. If we’re constantly planting seeds of anger, selfishness, or division, we really shouldn’t be shocked when those things start to grow all around us in our communities and relationships.
What’s comforting, though, is knowing that God doesn’t change His mind or break His promises. If He says something, He means it. We might be able to fool ourselves or even each other, but we can’t fool God. He sees what’s in our hearts and knows the truth behind our actions.
This makes me stop and think: What am I planting in my own life? How am I contributing to the bigger picture in our country? Am I sowing seeds of kindness, honesty, and fairness, or am I letting anger and frustration take over? It’s a challenging question for all of us, but it’s also a call to action.
If we want a better, more united nation, we have to start with ourselves. We need to choose words and actions that build others up instead of tearing them down. Let’s plant seeds of love, truth, and justice—because, in the end, we all reap what we sow.
