A Down-to-Earth Reflection on Unity, Purpose, and the Gospel
We’re All In This Together
Have you ever stopped and wondered what it would look like if all believers—no matter where we come from, what language we speak, or what our backgrounds are—were truly united? As I’ve been thinking about the phrase “That They May Be One,” it keeps hitting me how central this idea is to what Jesus wanted for His followers. When He prayed for unity in John 17, He wasn’t talking about everyone being exactly alike, but about a deep, spiritual togetherness—a true connection in heart, purpose, and love.
Why Unity Matters
When the Bible talks about “neither Jew nor Greek” (Galatians 3:28), it’s saying that in God’s eyes, all the ways the world divides us—culture, social status, even gender—fade away. What matters is that we’re all loved, valued, and chosen. Black, white, Hispanic, Asian, rich, poor, whatever our story, if we’re in Christ, we belong to one family. It’s not about pretending differences don’t exist, but about letting God’s love be bigger than any wall humans build.
Gifts, Purpose, and Prophetic Calling
Each of us has something special to offer. Some are gifted to preach, others to encourage, some to heal or to serve. Prophetic ministry, in simple terms, is about listening to God and speaking hope and truth into the lives of others. But all these gifts have one purpose: helping the world see the love and power of Jesus. We’re meant to use what we’ve been given to build bridges, not walls—and reconciliation is a huge part of that.
A Multitude No One Can Number
The book of Revelation (7:9-10) gives us this stunning picture: a massive crowd from every nation, every background, standing together before God’s throne. There, all distinctions melt away, and what’s left is pure worship and joy. Acts 17 echoes this, reminding us that we’re all made by God, meant to seek Him, and destined for a place before His throne.
Unity in Action
So, when we preach the gospel and live out our faith, we’re not just sharing good news—we’re inviting people into this radical unity. Our ministry isn’t just about words, but about embodying God’s heart for reconciliation. Whether you’re leading a church, serving behind the scenes, or just trying to follow Jesus day by day, you’re part of something much bigger: the movement toward oneness that Jesus prayed for.
· Unity isn’t just a dream—it’s our calling.
· Every gift and talent has a purpose in building up the body of Christ.
· God’s love breaks down every barrier.
· We’re all invited to join the “great multitude” around God’s throne.
Let’s not settle for division or small thinking. Let’s step into the unity Jesus prayed for, using our gifts to serve, reconcile, and point others to the love that makes us truly one.
