Reflecting on Today: What Grows in Our Hearts Over Generations

Understanding How the Present Is Shaped by Our Collective Choices

Sometimes, when we look around at the world today — at our communities, the news, even the way people treat each other — it can feel overwhelming or confusing. Why are things the way they are? The truth is, much of what we see happening now isn’t just random or sudden. It’s often a reflection of what we have allowed to grow and take root in our hearts, and in the hearts of those who came before us, over many generations.

Think of it like a garden. If you plant kindness, understanding, and patience, over time you’ll see those things flourish. But if anger, fear, or selfishness are planted and left unchecked, they can crowd out the good. Over the years, those seeds turn into habits, traditions, and eventually, the way our whole society acts.

The problems and divisions we face today didn’t start overnight. They are often the result of choices — big and small — made by people over decades, even centuries. Sometimes, the things that were tolerated or encouraged by previous generations become bigger issues later on. On the flip side, positive changes come about when people choose love, fairness, and respect, and pass those values on.

So, as we reflect on what’s happening around us, it’s important to remember that we all play a part in shaping the world, not just for ourselves, but for future generations too. The good news is that it’s never too late to start planting better seeds — in our hearts and in our actions. By doing so, we help create a future that we can all be proud of.
