Why We Must Demand Better from Our Leaders and Ourselves
A Moment of Reflection for Our Nation
There are times when we must pause and honestly ask ourselves: Is this what our country stands for now? When disturbing or disrespectful actions occur at the highest levels, have we become so desensitized that we simply ignore them? Recently, an online video surfaced that used artificial intelligence to depict former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes. The video, shared late at night by the President, was quickly removed the next day after public outrage from people across the political spectrum.
Beyond Mere Offense
The video not only presented a deeply offensive image, but also repeated unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 election. While some attempted to minimize the incident as just a meme or a reference to a movie, the reality is clear: sharing such content—especially when it dehumanizes individuals—is far more than a joke. It reveals how far we have strayed from fundamental respect and core values.
The Call for Higher Standards
We should expect more from our leaders—and from ourselves. Our actions and words should reflect dignity and honor for every person, recognizing that each of us is made in God’s image. If we tolerate this kind of behavior, what does it say about the current state of our nation? Perhaps it is time to wake up and insist on greater decency, honesty, and true leadership that embodies the best in all people.
A Foundation for National Greatness
The words of Proverbs 14:34 remind us: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” True greatness and stability for a nation arise from the moral, ethical, and virtuous character of its citizens—not merely from economic or military power. If we wish to see our country flourish, we must hold ourselves and our leaders accountable to higher standards, demanding integrity and respect in all that we do.
Conclusion
Now is the time to expect—and become—better. Let us champion decency, honesty, and leadership that uplifts every person and reflects the values upon which our nation was built.
