God’s Wisdom and Ours: Understanding the Divine Gift in Everyday Life

An Easy-to-Understand Look at How God Shares Wisdom With Us

What Makes God’s Wisdom Different From Ours?

When we talk about God’s wisdom, it’s important to realize that not everything about God is like us. Long ago, Christian thinkers split God’s characteristics into two groups. Some things about God are so unique that only He can have them—like being everywhere at once, never changing, and not needing anything from anyone. These qualities show how incredibly different God is from us, and we can only admire them from a distance.

But there are also qualities that God actually shares with humans. These include things like being spiritual, having freedom, being powerful, and living according to goodness, truth, and fairness. The Bible says that when God created people, He made them “in His image.” That means He gave us the ability to make choices, do what’s right, and connect with Him in a personal way.

What Happened to God’s Image in Us?

Unfortunately, the first humans made a choice that damaged this image. Since then, all people have lost some of those godly qualities. But here’s the ugood news: God is working to restore those lost parts in anyone who trusts Him. The Bible says that Christians are being changed to become more and more like Jesus—not just in what they do, but in who they are deep inside.

God Shares His Wisdom With Us

Wisdom—the ability to see what’s right and make good choices—is one of those qualities God wants to share. The book of Proverbs in the Bible is packed with advice about seeking wisdom. It says, “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” In other words, wisdom is worth more than money or anything else you could own.

Wisdom is even pictured as a woman calling out on the street, inviting people to come and learn from her. She says that those who find her will find life, but those who ignore her are only hurting themselves.

How Can We Get Wisdom?

The Bible teaches that anyone who really wants wisdom can have it, but there are two main steps:

1.        Respect God (“Fear of the Lord”): This doesn’t mean being scared of God, but having a deep sense of awe and respect for Him. It means realizing that God is much bigger and wiser than we are, and being willing to let Him teach us—even if it means rethinking the way we see the world. The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” That means real wisdom starts when we admit we don’t know it all and are ready to learn from God.

2.        Listen to God’s Word: Wisdom comes through paying attention to what God has said in the Bible. The more we soak up God’s teachings, the more our thinking is shaped by what’s true and right. One writer in the Bible said, “Your commands make me wiser than my enemies… for I meditate on your statutes.” That means reading, thinking about, and applying what we learn in Scripture.

Why Do We Miss Out on Wisdom?

Many people—sometimes even those who believe in God—miss out on wisdom because they don’t humble themselves or take the time to really dig into the Bible. We might spend hours on news, social media, or entertainment, but barely crack open the Bible. The truth is, wisdom is a gift God is eager to give, but we have to put in the effort to receive it.

What Does Wisdom Look Like?

Wisdom isn’t just about knowing a bunch of facts or being smart. It’s about living in a way that pleases God and helps others. It means making choices that reflect God’s goodness, truth, and love—even when it’s hard. The Bible encourages us to be wise in how we live, to act thoughtfully around others, and to ask God for guidance when we’re not sure what to do. And the amazing promise is that if we ask God for wisdom, He will gladly give it to us.

Final Thoughts

God’s wisdom is one of His greatest gifts. He wants us to have it, but we must be humble, listen to Him, and make seeking His wisdom a priority in our lives. If we do, we’ll find that our lives are richer, our decisions are better, and we are becoming more like the people God designed us to be. So, let’s make it a habit to seek God’s wisdom every day!
