Choosing Christ Over Self—In Real Life, Every Day
What Does “Crucified Life” Mean?
Imagine waking up each day and asking, “How can I follow God today?” instead of “What do I want for myself?” That’s what living the crucified life is all about, inspired by Galatians 2:20. It’s letting go of what you want—your own plans, comfort, and bad habits—and choosing to let Jesus guide your life. This isn’t a one-time thing; it’s a daily, conscious choice to trust God’s ways, even when it’s tough or uncomfortable.
What Does Living This Way Look Like?
Living a crucified life means you’re no longer running the show. Instead, you invite Jesus to lead. It’s not just about avoiding trouble or sin—it’s about giving up your old ways and ambitions, letting God’s Spirit steer you, especially when things aren’t easy.
Key Ideas Made Simple
· Union with Christ: Believing in Jesus connects you to Him. His story—dying and rising—becomes your story. Your old life is gone, your new life starts.
· Death to the Old Self: The part of you that’s selfish or sinful is “crucified.” It’s not in charge anymore.
· Life by Faith: You don’t have to figure it all out or try harder on your own. Trust Jesus—He’ll help you take each step.
· Surrender and Sacrifice: You make it a habit to put God’s will first, even when you’d rather do something else. You say “no” to yourself and “yes” to God.
· Active Choice: This isn’t automatic. You decide every day to listen to God’s Spirit instead of old habits or wants.
Bible Verses in Everyday Language
· Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” The old you is gone—now Christ lives through you.
· Romans 6:6: “Our old self was crucified with him.” Your old habits and sinful ways got nailed to the cross, too.
· Galatians 5:24: “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” If you follow Jesus, you leave selfishness and sinful cravings behind.
Why Does This Matter?
Choosing to live the crucified life isn’t about being perfect. It’s about relying on Christ instead of yourself, letting His love and power change you from the inside out. It’s about knowing you’re loved, forgiven, and empowered to live differently. As Galatians 2:20 says, you live by faith in Jesus, who loved you and gave Himself for you. That’s not just good news—it’s life-changing.
