What the Lord Says About Knowing His Word

Discovering God’s Word and Ways—A Simple Guide for Everyday Life

Let’s talk about what the Lord says about knowing His Word. It’s easy to think that just having a Bible at home or remembering a few verses means we know what God wants for us. But really, knowing God’s Word is much deeper—it’s about reading it, learning from it, and letting it shape our lives. God invites us to truly understand what He’s saying, so we don’t just hear about His Word—we experience it for ourselves.

Many people have heard about the Bible, maybe from church, family, or Sunday School. Yet, that doesn’t mean they know what God has actually said or what He wants for them. Owning a Bible or hearing stories is only the start. God wants us to dig in, get to know Him, and discover the guidance, hope, and love found in His Word.

So, what does it mean to know God’s Word? It’s more than memorizing verses or listening to sermons. It means spending time with Scripture, asking questions, and letting God’s teachings become part of who we are. God’s Word is meant to be alive in us—helping us grow, guiding our decisions, and giving us strength for everyday life.

God describes His Word as essential, like food for our souls. It’s not just information—it’s life-giving truth. The Bible says it’s a lamp that lights our path, showing us the way forward when life feels uncertain. It’s also a sword, helping us cut through confusion and see God’s truth clearly. God’s Word helps us stand strong, find purpose, and live with hope.

Here are some key themes to remember:

  • It’s Essential for Life: Jesus taught that we can’t live on bread alone—we need God’s Word. It fills us up on the inside and nourishes our spirit.
  • It Brings Transformation and Wisdom: The Bible teaches, corrects, and trains us, so we’re ready for whatever life brings. It changes the way we think and act.
  • It Must Be Acted Upon: God wants us to do more than listen—He wants us to live out His Word. When we obey, we grow and see real change.
  • It Reveals God’s Character: If you want to know who God really is and what He desires, spending time in the Bible is the way to find out.
  • Warnings and Promise: God warns us not to change or ignore His Word. If we read it, think about it, and obey, He promises we’ll find success and true purpose.

There’s a difference between knowing what God does—His acts—and knowing His ways. Many people see God’s actions but don’t understand the principles behind them or why He moves the way He does. Knowing God’s ways comes from an intimate relationship with Him. It’s built on a biblical foundation, surrender, and obedience. As we get closer to God, we begin to understand not just what He does, but why—and that changes everything.

Here are some practical steps to help you know God’s ways:

  • Read & Study the Bible: Spend time in Scripture, learning about God’s character and promises.
  • Pray for Revelation: Ask God to give you wisdom and understanding, just like Paul did.
  • Listen & Obey: Be attentive to God’s voice and act on what He tells you. Obedience keeps your faith alive and growing.
  • Experience & Trust: Let life’s ups and downs teach you more about who God is, trusting Him through it all.

Ephesians 1:17 says, “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Paul’s prayer isn’t just for head knowledge—it’s for spiritual insight and a deeper connection with God. He wants believers to understand the hope they have and the riches of God’s promises through the Holy Spirit.

To sum it up: God wants us to know Him and His Word—not just in our minds, but in our hearts and everyday lives. Take His invitation seriously. Start reading, start asking questions, start trusting, and watch how your life changes as you get to know God’s Word and His ways for yourself.
