A Simplified Guide for Everyday Life

Have you ever wondered if some of your actions or attitudes might be holding you back or harming your relationships? If any of the traits described below sound familiar, don’t worry—there’s always a path forward for change and growth. The Bible offers practical wisdom that helps us understand why certain behaviors cause trouble and how we can live with integrity and kindness.

Seven Behaviors to Watch Out For

Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven actions that are considered especially harmful. Let’s break them down into simple, everyday language and see how they relate to us today.

1. Proud Looks: Thinking You’re Better Than Others

This is about acting superior—thinking you’re more important than everyone else. Pride can make it tough to admit your own mistakes or connect with others. The Bible teaches humility, reminding us to appreciate people and be thankful for what we have.

2. Lying Tongues: When Honesty Takes a Back Seat

Dishonesty—telling lies for any reason—can quickly destroy trust. Even small lies can grow into bigger problems and hurt relationships. The Bible encourages us to be truthful, using our words to help, not harm.

3. Hands That Hurt the Innocent

This means causing harm to people who haven’t done anything wrong, especially the vulnerable. Life is precious, and hurting others is one of the worst things we can do. The Bible urges us to be kind and to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

4. Wicked Plans: When Bad Intentions Take Over

Sometimes, harmful schemes start in our hearts, even before we act. Planning to hurt or deceive others is just as damaging as the actions themselves. The Bible asks us to check our thoughts and intentions, aiming for goodness instead of harm.

5. Feet That Rush Into Trouble

This is about acting impulsively—jumping into bad situations without thinking about the consequences. It’s like stirring up drama or getting into fights just because. The Bible teaches us to slow down and make sure our actions are right.

6. False Testimony: Twisting the Truth for Harm

Lying about others, especially in a way that causes trouble or injustice, is very destructive. Imagine someone in court who lies and ruins someone’s life. Trust depends on honesty, and this behavior breaks that trust.

7. Stirring Up Trouble Among Friends

Creating division—through gossip, manipulation, or actions that make friends fight—is another harmful behavior. Some people enjoy watching others argue, but the Bible wants us to build unity and strengthen relationships instead.

Why These Behaviors Matter Today

These seven behaviors aren’t just ancient rules—they’re timeless advice. Avoiding them helps us build trust, peace, and harmony in every part of life, whether it’s at work, school, or home. Here’s how:

  • Avoiding pride makes it easier to work together and respect each other.
  • Being truthful strengthens relationships and communities.
  • Standing against harm shows compassion and fairness.
  • Thinking before acting leads to responsibility.
  • Honesty builds trust and justice.
  • Working to unite people creates a supportive environment.

Living by Biblical Values

These behaviors aren’t just “do’s and don’ts”—they’re a guide for living a life with integrity and purpose. Every choice we make matters. By acting with kindness, honesty, and humility, we help build a world filled with love, justice, and unity.

So, if you recognize any of these traits in yourself, remember: change is possible. Take these teachings to heart and let them shape how you live each day.
