Make Every Day Count

Where is He when everything in my life is falling apart?”

The Word of God shows us how to live in the present. Ephesians 5:16-17 (NLT) says, “Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. ¹⁷ Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” This is God’s will for His children. His desire is for us to maximize every opportunity given to His children. I often encourage my sons that they are full of potential. We should choose each day to follow and serve God.

Time stops for no one, so how should we live our daily lives? James 4:14 (NLT), ” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” These are sobering word!

In light of the recent tragedies in Florida, Texas, and today in Maryland we should stop complaining and make every breath count. We all go through difficult times, including me. We should learn to make the most of every day, because it could be our last. While none of us are promised tomorrow, we can improve our quality of life by making every day count.

Below are three things we can do to make every day count as we press forward in our daily lives:

1.Show gratitude to God and others. “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

2. Show acts of kindness. “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 (NLT)

3. Laugh because laughter is good for the soul.  The joy of the Lord is your strength in troubled times.  “A miserable heart means a miserable life; a cheerful heart fills the day with song.” Proverbs 15:15 (MSG)

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22 (NLT)

God’s desire is that we live an abundant life. A part of that involves having a healthy soul. The vicissitudes of daily life, unpleasant circumstances, or unfortunate events can weigh heavily on our spirits and souls. King David knew this all to well and encourages us to trust in God’s mercy, goodness and grace. Faith means trusting all that God promises to be to us in Christ Jesus. King David gives us a glimpse of a man who walked with God with great emotion in victory and in defeat.

Many of you may be going through difficult times that seem unbearable. Sometimes things aren’t what they seem. They may look a certain way, but when we see them from a different angle, they are completely different. David cried out to the Lord in a difficult seasons of life.

In many of the Psalms, David often lamented about the difficult places where God had placed him. He talked of his enemies and the need for God to deliver him. He talked of God’s everlasting love for him.

“Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?   How long will you look the other way?  How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,  with sorrow in my heart every day?   How long will my enemy have the upper hand?  Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!  Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.  Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”  Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.  But I trust in your unfailing love.  I will rejoice because you have rescued me.  I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.  Psalm 13 (NLT)

Be encouraged.  Pray without complaining. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
