A Different Perspective On The Border Crisis

“Anyone who sets himself up as “religious” by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.” James 1:27 MSG

Today, President Trump is traveling to the border to see first hand what’s going on and to promote the need for more border security and the wall.

As I pondered the humanitarian crisis at the border a righteous thought came to me that more border security and the wall is needed or upgraded.  Not necessarily to keep people out but to ensure they enter in safely and legally according to U. S. Policy.

Perhaps at the initial cry that migrants were headed towards the border, action could have been taken to address the potential issues that would ensue upon their arrival. Perhaps some actions were taken. Right now people are living in squalor trying to find an entryway into this country at the risk of losing their lives. The U. S. government is shutdown. Where do they go from here?

There is no doubt that our immigration policies and border security needs to be enhanced and enforced. Prayerfully Congress will address this issue post-haste. It’s long overdue.

According to the news a record number of children are still being held in custody and confinement. Two young children have died in an effort to cross over with their families. Many of these children are now orphans not necessarily because their parents have died, but perhaps because they are unknown, or have permanently abandoned them in hopes of giving them a better life. I can’t imagine how traumatized these children will be once this ends.

We are all God’s creation and he loves everyone he created. The Lord asks Christians to be kind and generous to the fatherless children of the world; to care for the orphans. The Lord says, “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause” (Isaiah 1:17).

God loves good and hates evil. God loves justice. As Christians we should be very concerned about what we see happening in the world today.

James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

For the most part everyone has blamed the other side. There is a Scripture in Matthew 7 that says take the log out of your own eye before trying to take the speck out of someone else’s. We condemn ourselves when we pass judgement on another when we practice the very same things.

Instead of blaming our government leaders should come together to resolve both the government shutdown and immigration issues. Then we can stop the mouth of the lions and administer justice for all people.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Blessings,

Dr. Francine
