Many people go to work every day and some have two or more jobs, just to secure water, food, clothing, housing, and protection just to survive. What a tragedy! God never intended it to be this way. We were created to flourish in life.
God established His priority at the beginning of creation and made it clear we were to have dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26-28). God’s priority for mankind is completely different than man’s.
Jesus Christ came to earth and reestablished God’s priority (Matt. 6:25). Jesus implied that worrying about these basic needs, food, drink, and clothing should not be our priority in life. We are not to worry about these things, which most of us tend to do at some time in life. These things should not be our priority in life nor consume our every thoughts. Why? Jesus said our Father in Heaven knows we have need of these things. I know from experience as a single mother that when your back’s against the wall it can be frightening.
Jesus said our life is more valuable than the birds of the air and God looks after them. Our confidence and faith should be in our Creator’s covenant and commitment to sustain His creation (Matt. 6:26-32) We need to get this understanding in our hearts. Even today many people are worried about the economy, education and healthcare, etc. God knows we have need of these things.
God is restoring righteousness in the earth! God’s number one priority: Seek first the Kingdom. Jesus established that the Kingdom is more important than food, water, clothing, shelter, and every other basic human need. Why? Paul gives us the answer in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all of your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” This is a truth that we all must hide in our hearts so that when the enemy tries to convince us that God will not provide we know in our hearts he’s lying. God is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider! Abraham, the Father of Faith knew this quite well when he took Isaac up to the mountain (Gen. 22:14).
As God’s covenant people, we are to seek first, as our priority, His Kingdom and His righteousness and all of these things will be given to you as well (Matt. 6:33). If we don’t understand this truth then we impose undue hardship, pressure, stress, and frustration on ourselves. Matthew 6:34 AMPC, “ So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.”
