In Part 1 of this series I encouraged everyone to go deeper in your hunger for the things of God. Kingdom of God Series: Whatever Happened to the Gospel? The Bible says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” –Matthew 5:6 TPT
Today there are many variations of the gospel that has caused the church to lose sight of why Jesus sacrificed His life as an offering for those who would accept Him. Many religious TV programs focus on everything but the gospel. Perhaps they can be called the “showers of blessings” gospel. For example:
- “prosperity gospel”
- “feel good gospel”
- “health and wealth gospel”
- “name it and claim it gospel”
- hyper-grace teaching
Sadly, so many in the church don’t know the Word and are swept away with every wind and doctrine. How can you teach people to do the work Jesus left His Church to do if they don’t know the Word.
God does promise to bless His people, but this is not the primary reason Jesus came to earth. I feel compelled by the Spirit of God to warn of the present danger we face as the church today as clearly as I can. It’s not what people want to hear because they have become so accustomed to a water-down version of the Gospel. 2 Timothy 3:18-17 (TPT) says, “Every Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.” If what you are receiving today is not equipping you to fulfill whatever assignment God has purposed for you then you are being deceived.
Later, 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (TPT) says, “ For the time is coming when they will no longer listen and respond to the healing words of truth because they will become selfish and proud. They will seek out teachers with soothing words that line up with their desires, saying just what they want to hear. They will close their ears to the truth and believe nothing but fables and myths.” Who is they?
Recently, I was sharing with someone who does not share the same belief I have regarding who Jesus is. While researching the topic further to share more insight with them the Holy Spirit said to me not focus on the question at hand, but to focus on the reason and purpose why Jesus came. What is key is that God sent His Son to redeem mankind unto Himself. –Luke 1:68; Romans 5:8 Many times people get hung up on Bible translation differences. I believe this is a form of deception satan uses to keep people from receiving the revelation of why Christ came to earth — to die for our sins so that we can be reconciled to God. We have to keep the main thing the main thing. God’s Word is infallible –incapable of making mistakes or being wrong.
Jesus endured humiliation on the cross for our freedom. What many are receiving today is not the true gospel message. Proof of this is in Jesus’ letter to the church of Ephesus. Sorrowfully, many have abandoned the passionate love they had for Christ at the beginning. — Revelation 2:1-7
Many in the church today have left their first love and settled for something less than what Christ died for. Christ paid the price for our redemption and set the stage for the church to fulfill God’s purposes on earth.
A great spiritual awakening is coming to America!
