“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”–Romans 13:11 —NIV
“The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. —Revelation 1:1-3 —NIV
The words of Jesus to John—the apostle who saw him in the powerful vision that opens this book. John was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day when he heard a loud voice like a trumpet which said:
Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.
—Revelation 1:10-11 NIV
What did John see?
He saw “seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.” “The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. —Revelation 1:12-16 NIV
A glorious vision or appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ. John fell at his feet as though he was dead. Then Jesus placed His right hand on John and said:
Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
—Revelation 1:17-18 NIV
Then the Lord said, “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. —Revelation 1:19-20 NIV
John was instructed to write what he had seen, what is now and what will take place in the future. The Son of man showed him the mystery of the seven stars that he saw in his right hand and of the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
Daniel had a vision in the night in which he saw “one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.” —Daniel 7:13 NIV
The one Daniel saw was given dominion, glory, and kingship, that the people of every nation and language should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.… v.14
God has not only spoken in different time periods, but in different ways. Scripture says, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” —Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV
What would you do if you saw the “Son of Man“ standing before you in all His glory?
“Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ —Isaiah 46:9-10
Jesus is returning soon! How do I know? He told a year ago in my spirit: “I am coming soon!”
