“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn” (Prioverbs 29:2 KJV).
I originally wrote this post in October 2018 while observing the changes that were taking place with America. I decided to repost in light of the present chaos taking place in America playing out on the world stage.
When we think of bankruptcy we usually think of the inability to pay our financial debts. Financial bankruptcy is often devastating, but what about spiritual bankruptcy?
As a nation we are facing a crisis the likes of which we’ve never faced before. It is increasingly evident that the leadership from all political parties are for the most part completely blind to the real dangers we are facing as a nation.
We have a spiritual problem. This nation is spiritually and morally bankrupt. We have a heart issue. Many have abandoned their first love (Rev. 2:4) for a false gospel. This nation’s foundation was established on the premise of liberty and justice for all as the country’s leaders navigated through issues of slavery, racism, sexism, immigration and voters rights. It’s amazing that we are still facing some of these very same issues today.
Our national leaders no longer come together to do what is “good” for the whole of our nation. Far to many people only care for their own interests. There is a spirit of entitlement and privilege that put me or party’s interest before we the people who make up this nation.
We read in II Timothy:
“For people will be lovers of self and (utterly) self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate (greedy) desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane.
(They will be) without natural (human) affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); (they will be) slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good.
(They will be) treacherous (betrayers), rash, (and) inflated with self-conceit. (They will be) lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.
For (although) they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it (their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession) (2 Tim. 3-5 AMP).
It is impossible to exist in a society with one another without some form of leadership. The Book of Judges contains a graphic description of the chaos, lawlessness and moral bankruptcy of the Israelite’s before the establishment of kings.
The Bible teaches that there is no authority except that which God has established. And that governing authorities are God’s servant for our good. When we oppose government we are opposing God, that is why we are to pray for our leaders and all in authority (Rom. 13, 1 Tim. 2:1-2). Scripture also reveals that when righteous leaders rule the people rejoice, but when unrighteous leaders rule the people groan (Prov. 29:2).
I urge you to PRAY that the nation’s leaders seek the wisdom of God in their decision making. Proverbs 11:14 says, “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers”. We need righteous leaders who will not seek their own, but the common good of all.
The Church has the opportunity to rise up and make a significant impact on all the nations of the earth whether it be through prayer or influence in the spheres that we have been given to go preach the gospel and make disciples. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance” (Ps. 33:12). Many times we want the blessing without doing the praying or disciple making.
May the grace, joy, and peace of God be yours through Jesus Christ our loving Lord. To Him be glory, now and forever.
