One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism: A Call to Christian Unity

one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Eph. 4:5-6)

Understanding the Unity of Faith in Simple Terms

The Bible, in Ephesians 4:5-6, reminds us of something truly amazing. We are all connected through one Lord. We share one faith and one baptism. This message speaks loudly about Christian unity and the presence of God in every part of our lives. Here’s what it means, in everyday language:

One Lord

First off, this passage starts with the idea of “one Lord.” It’s talking about Jesus Christ. He’s the central figure of Christianity—the one who lived, died, and rose again to bring us closer to God. We may differ in the ways we worship. We may follow different traditions. Yet, all Christians share one thing in common: we believe in the same Savior, Jesus. That’s what holds us together.

One Faith

Faith isn’t just about believing in God—it’s about trusting Him and living our lives based on His promises. The phrase “one faith” reminds us that, deep down, all Christians are on the same journey. We’re walking together towards God, even if we take slightly different paths along the way. This shared faith unites us. It helps us find joy in the things we have in common. At the same time, we still appreciate our differences.

One Baptism

Baptism is more than just a church ceremony. It’s a way of showing that we belong to God. It also shows that we belong to each other. Through baptism, we become part of a larger family of believers. It’s a symbol of being cleansed, renewed, and connected. This “one baptism” reminds us that our connection to God and His church is greater than any divisions. It shows that our connection is larger than any divisions we might have. It calls us to work together as one team, united in Christ.

One God and Father of All

The passage ends by describing God in a striking way. He’s “above all,” meaning He’s in charge of everything. He’s “through all,” meaning He’s active in the world. He’s “in all,” meaning He’s close to us, involved in our daily lives. This shows that God isn’t distant. He’s absolutely everywhere. He is taking care of us and showing us His love every step of the way.

What This Means for Us

Ephesians 4:5-6 isn’t just something to read and forget—it’s a call to action. These verses encourage us to focus on what brings us together instead of what pulls us apart. Whether it’s pride, misunderstandings, or disagreements, we’re challenged to put those aside. Why? Because we’re all part of the same family under God.

The world can feel divided at times. These words remind us that, as Christians, we have a chance to make a difference. We’re called to show love to one another. We need to build connections instead of walls. We should be a shining example of unity in a world that needs it.

Let’s take these words to heart. Let’s come together in the Spirit. We celebrate the beauty in our differences. We stay united in our shared faith and our shared Creator. By doing so, we can live out the unity God intended for us—and be a light in the darkness.

Blessings,
