Kingdom of God Series: Whatever Happened to the Gospel?
Have you ever wondered why so many different versions of the gospel are being preached today? You might hear about the “prosperity gospel,” the “feel good gospel,” or the “name it and claim it gospel.” Sometimes, it seems like the true message of Jesus is getting lost among so many other messages. That’s why I want to encourage you, in simple terms, to go deeper in your hunger for the things of God—because there is so much more for you to discover.
Blessed Are Those Who Hunger
The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:6 (TPT), “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” This means that if you truly want to live the life God created you for, you need to desire His ways and His truth more than anything else. When your heart longs for what is right in God’s eyes, He will make sure you are satisfied.
Why Did Jesus Really Come?
With all the different teachings out there, we can forget the main reason Jesus came. He didn’t just come to give us blessings, wealth, or comfort—He came to rescue us from sin and bring us back into a relationship with God. That’s the heart of the gospel, the “good news.”
God’s Word says, in Romans 5:8, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus’ sacrifice was about redemption—restoring us to God. It’s as simple and powerful as that.
Staying Rooted in God’s Word
Today, many religious programs and messages focus on what we can get from God rather than what He calls us to do. But as 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (TPT) says, “Every Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.” If you’re not being equipped to do what God created you for, you might be missing the true message.
Don’t Settle for Less
There’s a real danger when we settle for watered-down versions of the gospel. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (TPT) warns us that, “The time is coming when they will no longer listen and respond to the healing words of truth because they will become selfish and proud. They will seek out teachers with soothing words that line up with their desires, saying just what they want to hear. They will close their ears to the truth and believe nothing but fables and myths.”
This means many people will choose comfortable teachings over the truth. But real growth, freedom, and life come from knowing God’s Word and living it out—no shortcuts.
Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing
Don’t get distracted by arguments over Bible versions or new trends in teaching. The main thing is this: God sent Jesus to redeem us, to pay the price for our sins, and to bring us close to Him. The Bible is trustworthy and true, and it points us back to God’s love and purpose for our lives.
Jesus endured the cross for our freedom. He gave His life so we could have a fresh start and a real relationship with God. But many have lost sight of this and left their “first love”—that passionate relationship with Jesus. Let’s not settle for less than what Christ gave everything for.
A Call to Spiritual Awakening
A great spiritual awakening is coming to America! God is stirring hearts to return to Him, to know Him, and to live out the Gospel in its fullness. Let’s hunger for more of God, go deeper in His Word, and stay focused on what truly matters.
May you be filled with a new passion for Jesus and a desire to live out the true gospel every day.
Blessings,
