Finding Clarity, Purpose, and Hope When Everything Feels Uncertain
Let’s be honest: these days, life feels confusing. From the world around us to the churches we attend, there’s division, arguments, and uncertainty. Sometimes, it can seem like we’re just going through the motions, and God is more of a distant idea than a personal guide. But is that really how things are supposed to be?
What God Wants from Us—Plain and Simple
In the Bible, the Lord spoke to seven churches, giving them messages not only for their time, but for all churches throughout history—including us today. It’s easy to lose sight of what God actually wants from us. Some think He doesn’t expect much, but the prophet Micah (Micah 6:8) makes it clear: “The Lord has shown you what is good. And what does He require of you? To act justly, to love kindness and mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Why Are Things So Messy?
Many times, we put off doing the things we know we should—like growing in faith, helping others, or building up our church—because we’re busy or waiting for a ‘better time.’ The truth is, just like in the days after the Jews returned from Babylon (Haggai 1:1-11), people focused more on their own lives than on God’s work. They kept saying, “Not yet.” But waiting meant missing out on what mattered most, and they found themselves struggling instead of thriving. God allowed their plans to fall apart because they neglected Him.
Self-Check: Where Are Our Priorities?
It’s easy to spot what’s wrong in other people’s lives but so easy to ignore our own spiritual state. We might spend a lot on ourselves but struggle to give to good causes or ignore God’s call. The Bible encourages us to look at our own hearts and ask, “Am I really living for God, or am I just busy with everything else?” If we’ve neglected God, that’s not a reason to keep doing it. Today can be the day we put Him first again.
Now Is the Time to Seek God
The Bible says in Isaiah 55:6-7, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He’s near. Let the wicked turn away from their ways and thoughts, and return to the Lord. And He will have compassion and forgive generously.” Basically, God is offering forgiveness, peace, and hope—but there comes a time when this offer won’t last forever. We can’t just change our actions; we need to change our hearts and our thinking, too. God’s mercy is huge, and He forgives completely, but He wants us to take that seriously.
What Happens When We Put God First?
When we stop just focusing on ourselves and our own comfort, and instead give God His rightful place in our lives, everything changes. We find purpose, peace, and a reason to keep going—even when things feel shaky. The gospel—the good news about Jesus—gives us hope that no matter how divided or uncertain our world is, God is still working and calling us back to Him.
The Challenge For Us Today
So, are we just sitting back, ignoring the problems, and letting the foundations crumble? Or will we look honestly at our lives and our churches and return to what God truly wants? Let’s not wait for a ‘better time’ to get serious about our faith, our relationship with God, and our love for others. The time is now to seek Him, live justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
Foundations may be shaking, but the hope and promise of God remain steady. Let’s answer His call—today.
