Finding Peace and Clarity by Looking Beyond What We See
Have you ever found yourself asking, “Why is this happening?” or “I just don’t get it”? It’s a common feeling. Most days, we only see a tiny piece of life’s puzzle, and the rest seems blurry or confusing. Our view of the world is usually limited to what’s right in front of us—the day-to-day ups and downs. But what if there’s a bigger picture, one that we can’t see yet?
What Does It Mean to See from God’s Perspective?
Imagine watching a parade while standing on the sidewalk. You can see the floats as they pass by, but you have no idea what’s coming next or what’s already gone. Now picture someone hovering above in a helicopter. From up there, they see the start, the finish, and everything in between. That’s kind of how it works with God and us. While we see only one small part of the story, God sees it all—the beginning, the end, and every detail along the way.
The Bible explains that God’s understanding is complete, while ours is just a glimpse. When our worries and questions feel overwhelming, it’s comforting to know that there’s someone who sees the whole story.
Why Does God’s Perspective Matter?
When we focus only on what we can see, our problems might feel bigger than they really are. We might be anxious about the future, frustrated by setbacks, or confused about our purpose. Sometimes we pray for things that seem urgent, but maybe there’s a greater purpose at work—one we can’t see yet. If we ask God to help us see things the way He does, it can help us trust Him more and find peace even in hard times.
How Can We Start to See Life from God’s Perspective?
- Remember God’s View Is Bigger: The Bible says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways…” (Isaiah 55:8). God’s way of seeing things is much wider and deeper than ours.
- Focus on What Matters Most: Instead of worrying about the details we can’t control, focus on what God says is important—love, kindness, patience, and faith.
- Keep Your Mind on “Things Above”: The apostle Paul encouraged believers to “keep seeking the things above” (Colossians 3:1-4). That means thinking about God’s truth, even when the world feels confusing.
- Pray for Insight: Ask God to open your eyes to what He’s doing. Even when you don’t understand, trust that one day it will make sense.
- Read and Reflect on Scripture: The more we fill our minds with God’s Word, the more we start to see everything—situations, people, even ourselves—more like He does.
Going Deeper: What the Bible Says
Genesis 1:1-2 – The Beginning
Right from the start, the Bible gives us a simple and powerful account of how everything began. It reminds us that God is the Creator, and our place as people is to keep our eyes on heaven and our feet on earth. God’s Son was present when the world was made, and nothing exists without Him. It’s a reminder to hold high thoughts of God and the One who connects us to Him.
Colossians 3:1-4 – Set Your Heart Above
Christians are encouraged to walk closely with God and focus on what lasts. Earthly things and heavenly things can’t both be our main focus. When we let God’s Spirit change us, our old ways lose their grip, and we begin to desire what is good. Even if we haven’t seen Christ face to face, our life is secure in Him, and one day we’ll be with Him in glory.
1 Corinthians 13:8-13 – Love Lasts Forever
Love is greater than all the gifts and talents we value here on earth. Our time now is like childhood compared to the full maturity we’ll have in heaven. Things may seem confusing and dark, but one day we’ll understand clearly. Faith and hope are important now, but in heaven, love is the greatest—perfect and complete.
Takeaway
Trying to see life from God’s perspective doesn’t mean we’ll get all the answers overnight. But it does mean we can face life’s challenges with hope and confidence, knowing that God sees the whole picture. Keep asking God for His viewpoint—it can change everything.
Simple Prayer for God’s Perspective
Dear God, thank You for loving me and seeing the whole story. When I’m confused or worried, help me remember that Your perspective is bigger than mine. Show me what You want me to see, and help me trust Your plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
