Calling the Church Back to True Discipleship

Why Focusing on Christ and His Sacrifice Matters for Everyone

In a world full of distractions, it’s easy for churches—and those who attend them—to lose sight of what truly matters. Sometimes, we get caught up in routines, programs, and traditions, but forget the heart of what it means to follow Jesus. Today, let’s talk about bringing the church back to genuine discipleship, putting Christ at the center, and emphasizing the incredible power of His crucifixion and resurrection.

What Does Discipleship Really Mean?

Discipleship isn’t just about going to church on Sundays or knowing a few Bible verses. It’s about following Jesus in our everyday lives. This means learning from Him, growing in faith, and letting His teachings shape how we treat others, make decisions, and face challenges. True discipleship is an active, ongoing relationship with Christ, not a checklist or a one-time event.

The Centrality of Christ

At the core of Christianity is Jesus Himself. When we talk about the “centrality of Christ,” we mean that everything we do as believers should revolve around Him. He’s not just a part of our lives—He is the reason for our hope, our purpose, and our salvation. When churches focus on Jesus first, everything else falls into place.

The Power of the Crucifixion and Resurrection

The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus aren’t just stories from the past—they are the foundation of our faith. Through His death, Jesus took on all our mistakes, fears, and pain, offering forgiveness and a fresh start. His resurrection shows us that death doesn’t have the final say; there is hope beyond this life. These events prove God’s love for us and His power to change lives, no matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done.

Why This Matters Today

If the church loses sight of discipleship, or if Christ becomes just another part of our busy lives, we miss out on the real transformation that faith brings. By putting Jesus back at the center and remembering the power of His sacrifice and victory over death, we find strength, purpose, and true community. It’s time for the church—meaning all of us—to recommit to following Jesus fully, letting His love lead us and His example guide us.

Let’s encourage each other to live as real disciples, keeping Christ central and never forgetting what He did for us on the cross and through the empty tomb. That’s where true hope and life are found!
