Faith and Courage: Foundations for a Life That Endures

Understanding Faith in Action—Layman’s Terms

Faith and Courage: In Everyday Words

In simple terms, faith is believing in something you cannot see, trusting that what you hope for will happen, even when there’s no visible evidence. Courage, on the other hand, is the determination to act on that belief, especially when facing uncertainty or fear. Together, faith and courage are essential ingredients for anyone striving to live a meaningful life, especially when seeking to do good or to follow God’s calling.

Faith in Action: The Real Test

When we talk about working for God, it’s not just about doing good deeds—it’s about letting our faith guide our actions. If you truly believe, you’ll step out and do what’s right, even when the outcome seems uncertain. I’ve seen countless examples where people who are full of faith, grounded in truth, never walk away disappointed after praying and seeking answers. Their faith becomes the foundation for their courage.

Built on Solid Ground

Jesus illustrated this beautifully in Matthew 7:24-27, comparing two builders: one who built his house on the rock, and another who built on sand. When storms came, the house on the rock stood firm, while the house on sand collapsed. This parable teaches us that when our faith is firmly rooted—like a house built on solid rock—we can endure life’s challenges. It’s not enough just to hear good advice or teachings; we must put them into practice.

The Assurance We Need

Of course, it’s important to have assurance—confidence that what you’re expecting lines up with what Scripture promises. When we come together, united in prayer for blessings for our friends, family, and neighbors, we can be sure that God hears us. That assurance fuels our faith and gives us courage to ask boldly.

The Enemy of Faith: Unbelief

Unbelief is a barrier for everyone, whether Christian or not. It holds back blessings in the present just as it did in biblical times. The Bible tells us that Jesus could not perform many miracles in certain places because people lacked faith (Matthew 13:58). If even Christ was limited by unbelief, how can we expect anything to happen if we’re skeptical or doubtful? It’s not skeptics or atheists who hinder God’s work—it’s the lack of faith among believers.

Unity and Expectation

When God’s people come together with strong faith and expectation, amazing things happen. Unity in belief creates an environment where blessings are poured out, and mighty works are accomplished. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.”

The Call to Diligent Seeking

This message isn’t just for seasoned believers—it’s for everyone, including those seeking God for the first time. We all want blessings, both for ourselves and for those around us. God promises to reward those who diligently seek him. So, let’s approach God today with great faith and high expectation, trusting that He will answer, bless, and revive us—and reach even those who feel far away.

Let’s remember: faith is not passive. It’s active, lived out every day, and fueled by courage. Build your life on the solid foundation of faith, put it into action, and expect God to move in ways you never imagined.
