Many people spend a lot of time trying to figure out who they are. We may look for our identity in our job, our family, our past, our success, our mistakes, or what other people think about us. But none of those things can fully tell us who we are.
Your true identity is found in Christ. That means the most important thing about you is not what you have done, what happened to you, or what people have called you. The most important thing about you is who God says you are.
Second Corinthians 5:17 says that if anyone is in Christ, that person is a new creation. The old has gone, and the new has come. In everyday words, this means Jesus gives you a fresh start from the inside out. He does not just cover up the old you. He begins a new work in you.
Being made new does not mean you suddenly become perfect. It means you now belong to God, and He is changing your heart, your thinking, your desires, and your direction. You are no longer stuck living by old labels or old shame.
In Christ, you are loved. You do not have to earn God’s love by being perfect. You are forgiven. Your past does not have the final say. You are chosen. God sees value in you even when you struggle to see it in yourself. You are His child, and that means you are not alone.
The enemy wants you to forget this. He will try to remind you of your failures, your weaknesses, and your regrets. He will whisper lies like, “You are not enough,” “You will never change,” or “God cannot use you.” But those lies do not get to define you. God’s Word does.
Jesus said in John 10:10 that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He came so we could have life. That means Christ came to give us more than survival. He came to give us real life, new hope, and a secure identity in Him.
So when you feel unsure of yourself, go back to what God says. You are not your worst day. You are not your biggest mistake. You are not the opinion of someone who did not understand your worth. In Christ, you are redeemed, restored, and being made new.
One of the best ways to grow in your identity in Christ is to spend time with Him. Read His Word. Pray honestly. Stay close to people who encourage your faith. Speak God’s truth over your life, especially on the days when your feelings are loud.
Your identity in Christ is not something you have to chase. It is something you receive by faith and learn to walk in daily. You belong to God. You are loved by Him. You have purpose in Him. And because of Jesus, you can live with confidence, freedom, and hope.
