Rejecting Falsehoods and Restoring Truth

In today’s world, there’s a lot of confusion about what it really means to follow Jesus. So many different voices are out there—each claiming to have the “real” message of Christianity. But the heart of the gospel—the good news Jesus shared—is often lost in the noise. Let’s talk in simple terms about why it’s so important to get back to the basics of what Jesus actually taught, and why we need to be careful not to mix up the gospel with ideas that take us away from Jesus’s truth.

The Trap of Empty Religion

Sometimes, religion can seem like it’s just about following a bunch of rules or going through the motions—going to church, saying the right words, or looking good on the outside. But Jesus didn’t come to give us more rules. He wants a real relationship with us, not just rituals. When religion becomes about judging others or trying to earn God’s love, we’ve missed the point. Jesus cared more about our hearts—about love, justice, and mercy—than about how things look on the outside. He warned us not to get caught up in appearances, but to focus on what truly matters: loving God and loving others.

The Problem with the Prosperity Gospel

Some people say that if you follow God, you’ll always be rich, healthy, or successful. While God can bless us, the gospel isn’t a promise that everything will go our way. Jesus taught that life can be hard, and that following Him sometimes means making sacrifices. He told us not to put all our hope in money or things that pass away, but to look for lasting treasures—like faith, hope, and love. The real gospel is about living for something bigger than ourselves, not just chasing after wealth or comfort.

The Danger of Christian Nationalism

Christian nationalism is when people mix faith with politics, acting as if being a good Christian means being loyal to a certain country or political group. But Jesus didn’t come to start a political party or set up an earthly kingdom. His message is for everyone, everywhere—not just one nation or group. When we try to use Christianity to push a political agenda, we lose sight of the bigger picture. Jesus calls us to love our neighbors, no matter where they’re from, and to put God’s kingdom above all else.

Getting Back to the Whole Gospel

The true gospel is powerful because it’s about real change—from the inside out. It starts with admitting we need help, trusting in what Jesus did for us, and letting God’s love transform our lives. Being a Christian means following Jesus’s example: loving God, caring for others, and sharing hope with the world. It isn’t always easy, and it doesn’t always match up with what’s popular, but it’s worth it. The gospel brings freedom, healing, and a new way to live.

Why This Matters Now

When we settle for a watered-down or twisted version of the gospel, we miss out on the life Jesus offers—and so does the world around us. People are hungry for something real, something true. As followers of Jesus, it’s up to us to share the real message, even when it’s hard. By rejecting false gospels and coming back to the simple, powerful truth of Christ, we can help others find hope, purpose, and a love that never fails.
