When Faith and Politics Divide Instead of Heal

It is hard to understand how the name of God can be used in politics to divide people instead of bringing hope, healing, and truth to a hurting nation. We say we are “one nation under God,” but too often what people see is anger, fear, power struggles, and separation instead of love, justice, and compassion.

When faith is mixed with political power in the wrong way, it can stop looking like the teachings of Jesus. Jesus called people to humility, mercy, truth, and care for others. But when religion is used mainly to control, shame, or separate people, it can become more about power than about God.

It makes you wonder: have we stopped long enough to ask what God sees when He looks at this nation? Does He see justice, mercy, honesty, and righteousness? Or does He see lawlessness, pride, cruelty, greed, and people using His name while ignoring His heart?

The Bible teaches that God cares deeply about how people treat one another. He is not impressed by loud words, public shows of religion, or claims of moral superiority when people are living without justice and righteousness. If a nation continues in wrongdoing, we should at least be humble enough to ask whether God is calling us to repent, turn around, and return to what is right.

Maybe the real question is not whether God is on our political side, but whether we are living in a way that honors God at all. If we truly want to be a nation under God, then we must choose truth over lies, justice over oppression, mercy over cruelty, and unity over division. Real faith should lead people toward hope, not hatred; toward healing, not harm.
