The Compassion and Inclusivity of Christ’s Mission
Jesus’ Relationship to Earthly Kingdoms
Throughout the New Testament, it is evident that Jesus did not participate in, nor did He promote involvement with, any earthly kingdom, political system or nationalist ideology during His time on earth. When confronted by political authorities or questioned about His stance on governance, Jesus consistently redirected attention away from worldly power and towards spiritual truth. For instance, when asked about paying taxes to Caesar, His response was, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21). This statement illustrates His detachment from political ambition and His focus on a higher, heavenly kingdom.
Jesus’ Guidance to His Followers
Not only did Jesus refrain from engaging with earthly kingdoms, but He also did not encourage His followers to seek such involvement. His teachings emphasized the pursuit of God’s will and the coming of God’s kingdom rather than the establishment or support of any earthly regime. In His prayer, He taught His disciples to ask, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10), highlighting a spiritual orientation rather than a political one.
Jesus’ Attitude Toward People of All Backgrounds
During His ministry, Jesus demonstrated an unwavering love for all people, regardless of their backgrounds, ethnicity, or social status. He reached out to Samaritans, Romans, Jews, and Gentiles alike, breaking down barriers of animosity and prejudice. The story of the Good Samaritan, for example, transcends racial and cultural boundaries and calls for compassion toward all. Jesus’ interactions with individuals such as the Samaritan woman at the well, the Roman centurion, and many others reflect His inclusive and loving approach.
No Racial Animosity—Only Love
Jesus never held racial animosity or prejudice against anyone. His mission was rooted in love, seeking to reconcile humanity to God and to one another. He modeled acceptance, forgiveness, and selfless care, inviting everyone to experience God’s love regardless of race, nationality, or social standing. His words and actions challenged the divisions of His day, and His sacrificial love remains a powerful example for all.
Conclusion
In summary, Jesus did not involve Himself with earthly kingdoms and did not instruct His followers to pursue political power. Instead, He focused on the coming of God’s kingdom and demonstrated a radical love for all people, free from racial animosity or exclusion. His life calls us to follow this example—seeking spiritual truth and loving others without prejudice.
